Doug Armstrong just went for the jugular. With Jim Montgomery available after his firing from Boston earlier this week, the St. Louis Blues acted immediately by firing Drew Bannister and hiring Monty to take his place.
Montgomery has a new five-year contract with the Note.

Don’t think this is very fair for Bannister as I just didn’t think the team was very good. Most of these players were here when Berube got let go too and I don’t think anyone would claim he was the problem. However, I understand why this move was made. It’s hard to pass up on a coach like Montgomery.
This team has gotten worse over the past several weeks, it had to happen. Look at their record against the Central.
It just made too much sense to bring monty back. Plus his wife is from the area and they have a house here already.
Now the Cardinals need to do the same!
If Boston hadn't of been brain dead and fired Montgomery this wouldn't of happened. At the end of the game last night I told my wife I wonder how hot Bannisters seat is….
With the opportunity to get Montgomery, this move was a no-brainer.
Yes yes yes Banister sucked and I said it when they hired him. After the game last night, buchnevich said we don't work on offense in practice, just defence. I was like, wtf no wonder ur not scoring
I do really feel for Bannister because I reel did like him as a coach and the team did improve under him last year. But as you said it’s probably not as much about the job Bannister was doing as it is about the opportunity to get the coach they really want. So I’m excited to see what this can do for the team. Because this season is dangerously close to completely falling off the rails

It’s a very smart move…Bannister was a stepping stone while the team tools up. Monty apparently was OK taking the reins so hurray for Blue note nation.
