Game Story: Alongside Cooper Hopkins and Alec Nava was the trio who took in this emotional contest between the Columbus Blue Jackets (hashtag#CBJ) and the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (hashtag#Flames) I’ve included all of the Sportsnet coverage in this write-up alongside our call. Thank you. #13, #21.

Columbus Blue Jackets (11-9-3, Sixth in Metro) HC: Dean Evason Top Performers: Zach Werenski (8-18-26 +12); Kirill Marchenko (10-14-24 +16); Sean Monahan (8-14-22 +12); Cole Sillinger (3-12-15 –4); Yegor Chinakhov (7-7-14 +2); Damon Severson (4-9-13 +7); Adam Fantilli (5-7-12); Kent Johnson (9 GP, 6-6-12 +1); Dmitri Voronkov (6-5-11 +6); Kevin Labanc (1-9-10 +6);
CBJ Outlook: With Dean Evason now in tow, a trade that has sent David Jiricek to Minnesota in exchange for a top-five protected first rounder and a fifth in 2025. It also adds a third and fourth in 2026, a second in 2027 and defenseman Daemon Hunt. I think it will end up benefiting both teams. But CBJ has played very well of late… five of the last six and points in all of them. BOS, TB, CAR, CGY, CHI. Scored 31 goals in the last six games. Keeps goaltending in check.
Calgary Flames (12-9-4, Fifth in Pacific, WC2) HC: Ryan Huska Top Performers: Rasmus Andersson (5-8-13 +2); Nazem Kadri (5-7-12 –11); MacKenzie Weegar (3-9-12 +3); Jonathan Huberdeau (7-5-12 –6); Connor Zary (4-7-11 –4); Andrei Kuzmenko (1-9-10 –1); Mikael Backlund (5-5-10 +6); Matthew Coronato (6-4-10 +9); Blake Coleman (4-5-9); Justin Kirkland (2-6-8 +6)
CGY Outlook: While it did hurt losing former Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha, I see Huska having the entire team play well. The goaltending looks good. The splits are 9-3-0 at the Saddledome and 3-6-4 on the road. A 66-74 (GF-GA) split, 30 of 32 on the PK (70.9). Won four of the last five at home. But a terrible road stand (0-3-1) losses to OTT, DET, CBJ, PIT. Still Wolf looks to be a strong Calder candidate and if he keeps this up, will be an All-Star and frontrunner.
Goaltending Matchup: Elvis Merzlikins (8-5-2, 3.07 GAA, .894 SV, 1 SO); Daniil Tarasov (3-4-1, 4.03 GAA, .864 SV) vs. Dustin Wolf (8-4-1, 2.60 GAA, .918 SV, 1 SO); Dan Vladar (4-5-3, 2.87 GAA, .900 SV, 1 SO)
Last Matchup: CBJ gets 5-2 win over CGY. Merzlikins stops 27 of 29 in victory. Martin Pospisil fights twice as Mathieu Olivier throws with Marty and Ryan Lomberg. Things get nasty after Joel Hanley gets boarded by Olivier.
