when your 11.6 million dollar man forgets how to play hockey

Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks has been abysmal offensively over the past 8 months, with a lot of fans beginning to lose patience with Petey’s play. So in this video, I wanted to go deeper and look at some of the underlying metrics to figure out what’s really going on.

  1. Apologies if the background music is a little bit too loud! It felt okay when I was editing with my headphones on but now that I've heard it without headphones it does feel too loud. Will fix for the next video!

  2. I think he's clearly got some nagging physical issues that are holding him back, but like you said he's not lacking for effort, and I admire that. I think either we all need to adjust our expectations of him as an offensive sparkplug, and see him more as a two-way player and grinder (which is a shame considering his contract), or they need to sit him for a while as the rest of the team is mostly healthy to see if that alleviates his health issues. Maybe just put him on IR, get him training in the gym to stay strong, but give him time to get to 100% instead of consistently floating around the 70-80% range.

Whatever happens I'm glad to see him always putting in the work, and I hope he can just be happy with his play because I trust that he knows what he's capable of and what he can give the team.

  3. We have this season to trade his ass. Even if he turns it around he is a pylon in the playoffs. That contract will end up as the worst in canuck history and will handcuff management for 7½ more years

  4. It's terrifying to have a superstar that falls off the second they sign a big contract. That is a legit franchise killer.

  5. He’s doing good in every way except for putting the puck in the net other teams are just covering him too much

  6. I wonder what would happen if we just stopped talking about him for the rest of the season. Fans stopped hyping him up and booing him. Basically letting him go. No hate or love.

  7. An athlete who turns to shit after having signed an enormous multi-year contract?? Gee…THAT’S never happened before. Go figure.🤔

  8. I think he is savant.
I remember when he ballet pirouetted in live play. Dude understands how soft play gives play against the ideal which is just hyping hard slaps and bucket busting.
He's now in trying to do status quo mode. And, even that is impressive.
For quick dick sake; a smart going with quo?
    Waste of talent.

  9. Elias Pettersson is one of the most overrated players in NHL history, and i'm a SWEDE. Dude is GOOD, but he is not that Messias many keep saying.

  10. Maybe he not good enough to take a place in Tre Kronor in 4Nations!
STOP with this sick money in every sports!
We audience hate all these commercials!
We will see SPORTS NOT COCA-COLA!

  11. Pettersson is connected to me all of the time. He got my Zlatan confidence but a more mature version of it. 2021 there were some monkey business with Yogananda going on.

  12. Just got to keep the faith. It's surely a confidence issue. Get off his back and let him play. It'll return. 100%

  13. At least he seems to be on an upwards trend atm. I've always thought it was a weird coaching decision to place him in front of the net in most scenarios.. that's not where he shines..
But now tell me what the fuck happened to Loui Eriksson..
