Yet Again the Nashville Predators Can’t Keep a Lead or Close Out a Game: How Toronto Beat Them

Despite having a lead through two periods, the Nashville Predators lost in regulation to Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs. On today’s Locked On Predators podcast, we recap the loss with our “one word” and lay out why it was so easy for the Leafs to come back and win this game. Advanced stats looked promising again for Nashville, but the team is missing a key component that is preventing them from holding onto leads or rebounding from lapses. We tell you what that is. The Predators head to Montreal to take on the Canadiens tonight and we preview that game. Finally we use the hockey frustration to celebrate an under appreciated holiday.

  1. Leaf fans likely are at a minimum relieved while Preds’ fans have likely already begun asking themselves how soon GM Trotz will make the call to retool for what hopefully will be a much better start to the 2025–26 regular season.

  2. Nyquist blew that game in three minutes he was absolutely terrible and what about the predators play where the guy ended up in the net and no one came to l’heureux defense everyone on the ice should be benched for a game for that absolutely terrible performance. When you’re not sticking up for your teammates, there are serious issues abound

  3. I'm not totally sold on Brunette getting fired—his system works—the problem is the team just doubled down on older players—you had to have young guys step up and we haven't had it—we do need to make some major roster changes and leverage some draft picks (and players) to get that foundational type center or wing. It's time to do it—this spending spree on older guys did not get it done. It's time to rebuild—people hate the word but it needs to be done.

  4. This team is 30th in slot chances, and team defense. This “talent” is too slow, and old. Time to ask guys to waive their NMCs. DAL, and MIN have already passed us by.

  5. If the team can’t rally behind the Marchy gift goal then they’ll never get excited about anything.

  6. Seems to me there is just a lack of skill top to bottom. If you look at all the teams wining they have so much more skilled talent. You can only go so far on guts and work ethic.

  7. No one wants to hear this, but it’s time to look at our core players as well as the coaching staff because this is as bad of a hockey team as I’ve ever seen, when all the coaches and players we have moved on from, (or are still paying) are having success, then you might want to take a long look in the mirror.

  8. If the Preds can just start beating the teams that they’re supposed to beat, this team could probably build on that. Just get some wins against the lesser opponents, and continue to take good teams to OT. I know that’s easier said than done, but I don’t know how to break it down any simpler than that.

  9. We need a big true center and a big fast scoring defenseman. Novak is not a center and Schenn is too slow and Carrier is too small. Schenn and Carrier get used and abused as defensemen.

  10. I'm starting to jump on the wagon of firing Burnette. I don't believe he is a bad coach, but I just don't think his system works with the team that has been built. Burnette's system wants fast players who can be aggressive, and the Preds just don't have the speed and synergy to make it happen. The only issue with all of it is, I'm not sure who I would want to replace him with. The only person I can think of is Karl Taylor

  11. Some how this team keeps losing yet you keep protecting the crappy head coach that just stands there and looks like a lost dog

  12. we have good ingredients. defence and goaltending? Great.
PK- really great. We just can’t score goals🤦‍♂️
We need more at centre. Sissons and Novak just ain’t doing it. How does everyone feel about trading for zegras?

  13. If you think you stink.I am here in Chicago,we’ll atleast it’s a lot warmer in Music City,Patsy Cline, what a voice!
