Has goaltending become a strength for Leafs?

How should the Maple Leafs deploy the Core Four? Has the Leafs goaltending become a strength of the team? How have you felt about Connor Bedard’s play so far this season? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts.

  1. Craig had been waiting to use that Autobahn joke ever since he heard about Matthews going to Germany

  2. When it comes to trust in goaltending tandems of Canadian NHL teams, I consider the:
    – Leafs’, Jets’ and Flames’ respective Tony Stolarz-Joe Woll, Connor Hellebuyck-Eric Comrie and Dustin Wolf-Dan Vladar tandems as tied for 1st
    – Oilers’ Skinner-Pickard tandem as 4th-most-trustworthy
    – Canucks’ Kevin Lankinen-Arturs Šilovs tandem as 3rd-least trustworthy because although Lanky has provided relatively competent goaltending, Šilovs has provided so little by comparison that there is enormous pressure on the front office of the Canucks to send him down to the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL
    – Sens’ Linus Ullmark-Anton Forsberg tandem as 2nd-least trustworthy due to the above, including even fewer wins of games when compared to the Canucks, but not as bad as the Habs’ Sam Montembeault-Cayden Primeau tandem about which I plan to discuss in my next bullet point
    – Habs’ Montembeault-Primeau tandem as the least trustworthy due to Monty having this regular season provided relatively competent goaltending when compared to Primeau, but with Primeau basically having become quite unplayable (including last weekend against the Bruins having allowed multiple ugly goals that I could count)

  3. They're a great goalie tandom and are instrumental in most of the teams wins. This will continue, Toronto will finish high in their division. Hopes will be high till they both get injured just before the playoffs and Toronto suddenly has to scramble to find someone to play net for them. What? I'm a Leafs fan, I can't help thinking this way.

  4. The last few second of this clip were very uncomfortable lol. The silence with the slight breathing and smiles were straight out of a horror movie

  5. So its
    knies matthews nylander
Which is just better than you

    Then
    Mcmann Tavares Marner
The line that plays like a top line and has 2 guys youll never win a puck battle against.

So we have two top lines. One thats disgustinly good and one that'll out work you strip pucks off you. Especially if they are dealing with your 2nd line.

Jesus if this team keeps developing its bottom 6 with all these injuries, this team will be hard to stop. If domi can get back on the top line and we get a 3C for willy to make the 3rd line another "top" line. Especially by adding patches to 2LW and mcmann to 3LW, this team will be chaos.

  6. Yes, the goalies are tops, but you might want to examine the connection between their success and the kind of defense that is infront of them.

  7. Leafs have crazy depth in goal. Not only Stolarz & Woll, they've got Murray, Hildeby and Akhtyamov on the Marlies. Crazy depth.

  8. Tavares is benefiting from playing with Marner? Has there ever been a player that DIDN'T benefit from playing with Marner? JVR and Tyler Bozak BOTH had career years playing with first year NHL'er Mitch Marner. EVERYONE benefits from playing with Marner.

  9. Having that goalie strength won Boston at least 6 more games than they should have last year. All those back to backs you don't have a great performance as a team but your fresh tendy carries you. Leafs have already had a couple of those.
