Controversy spoils Raymond’s milestone night | Red Wings lose in OT to Bruins

It was big night for Lucas Raymond, who scored twice and reached 200 points in his young career, while riding 11 points during this 8-game point streak. But all that good will was spoiled when controversy ended the game in OT with a potential missed call. Was it a penalty? PK woes continued against the worst PP in the league. When will it change. #LGRW

  1. First comment! I agree, it wasn't a penalty. Loved Edvinsson's post-game. He didn't even know he had 2 assists. All he cared about was winning.

  2. C'mon fellas how bout some more Yzerman and Yzerplan azz kissing. It's only year 6 of the 15 year Yzerplan, playoffs and Stanley Cup contention are only 9 years away. 6 more years of Cossa playing in GR and he should be NHL ready at age 30. Holland screwed the team up {Zadina over Quinn Hughes} was the worst move and the Yzerman pass on everything because of his playing days here is discusting. Time to call it what it is, terrible owner, bad GM, bad coach. I'm fed up with them and no longer watch. CALL EM ALL OUT!!!!!!!!!!

  3. "Catering to Raymond and trying to get him his numbers at the rest of the team's expense spoils the Red Wings' season" ftfy

Two things are true: this team will never be good while Lalonde is coach, and this team will never be good while Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin are linemates on the top line. (To preface this bc I can see dumb people already getting outraged, whining about how the line did tonight, 2-0, Raymond's hot streak, blah blah blah – this does not refer specifically to tonight but to the last 2 seasons in general)

Him being tied at the hip to Larkin the last 2 years has killed the team just as much as Lalonde's horrific 5v5 system and penalty kill has killed it this year. Their lines don't win the scoreboard. Two years now. And the opportunity cost is a line which majorly wins the scoreboard – Kane Cat Larkin – is not used, meaning the team is much weaker than it should be both on the top line – which gets outscored or tied – and on the subsequent lines. It is a team-wrecking lineup decision and it never ends, bc Lalonde can't bear the thought of 'stranding' Lucas Raymond on the 2nd line wo an all star center.

When Kane was in his 4th year and was Raymond's age, first year of his 2nd contract, first of all he was making over 2 million dollars less a year despite having won a Calder, been 1st team all NHL, having won the Cup w an OT goal, having had a hat trick in a series clincher in the playoffs vs a HoF goalie, having scored 19 goals and 42 points in his first 38 playoff games and led the team in scoring in two straight long playoff runs ; but second off, the Blackhawks split up Kane and Toews that 4th year. They just took Jon away from him. Said sorry bud, it's in the best interest of the team. Good luck on the 2nd line w the scrubs, superstar, try and give us some lineup depth. Sorry about your numbers. And that is about a player who actually WAS a superstar. At an incredibly young age to be one. But they did it anyway, and in the long run it worked. It led to a whole dynasty. Did Kane resent past his prime 2nd year w the team free agent pickup Marian Hossa getting his top line spot next to Toews? If he did he never said anything about it. He certainly never threw a tantrum on the bench about it to get it changed, like Lucas did earlier this year vs Nashville. Maybe bc the Hawks had a real coach who unlike Lalonde would not have tolerated such stuff, and certainly wouldn't have GIVEN IN to it as Lalonde did that night and has since.

This coach is a clown and he has no business coaching at this level. He cares more about Raymond getting points on the scoresheet than the Wings getting points in the standings. Enough has to be enough at some point.

  4. Pasternak sure dove when Gustavson spun around on him and tapped him on the knee on that one call. THAT was pretty blatant, but WAY timely…?…

  5. The fact that Zadurov only got two for slashing after he gave a dirty crosscheck to Raymond, is ridiculous. It was so late after the play is dead. Nothing going on besides that cowardly act. Pasternak then checked Raymond when he’s down on his knees and again no penalty.

  6. Lalonde singled out Raymond for failing to clear the puck.
He never singles out Petry or Chiarot for any mistake and instead keeps giving them ice time instead of better players.
    Not to mention Gus.
This is not leadership that leads to success

  7. Nothing but love for the show, but I have to disagree with you Brian. If that play at the end of OT wasn't a penalty because Debrincat latched himself to Pastrnak's stick himself, then you have no defense for the Petry call with 2 minutes left in the 1st because the exact same thing happened. Kastelic clamped his arm down on Petry's stick/wrist so that he had no choice but to take the penalty, and this is called every single time its seen. Whatever you believe one to be, the other must necessarily be as well, and this clearly contradicts with the actual results.

Also, the offside replay was a little bit of a circus. In my humble opinion, if it takes video crews more than 5 minutes to confidently come to any meaningful conclusion then the call on the ice should be upheld and play should continue. If you can't figure out what you need to know in that amount of time then the play was way too close to ever be of significant impact and we're just wasting our time. I wouldn't even mind giving the coach their challenge back and assessing no bench minor penalty if it should happen that 5 whole minutes weren't enough to sort things out.

  8. Gustafson should have stayed on-side, Larkin didn’t score on his chance in OT, Compher put one in the 20th row instead of scoring on a wide open net…

this team plays victim to the refs rather than getting it done by themselves 😞

  9. You also forgot to mention the fact that this is the third game in a row that we could not hold the lead which resulted in a loss…. this is getting frustrating.

  10. Raymond the only guy that consistently produces in these hockey games. I don’t know how the locker room is, but I would be cussing out Chiarot, Gus, and Petry every night if I was Lucas. Debrincat looks slow and out of shape, not trying to be mean. He should have just made the pass. You’re a professional hockey player, why do you look so damn slow as a pro hockey club? This team has more uncompetitive losers on it than players like Lucas Raymond.

  11. That OT didn’t cost us. Larkin hitting the post on that nice play would have been nice too…. But it’s the PK (AGAIN) and until Chariot, Petry and Gufstavsson are out of this lineup, this team simply won’t win because of their lack of speed, IQ and how often they simply make a poor pick decision.

  12. If I see Chiarot’s dumb face step out of the penalty box 5 seconds into another failed penalty kill I’m going to lose my mind. Also, not a penalty in OT. Debrincat was holding pasta’s stick and lost an edge.
