  1. Penguins would be better off for it. two top 4 offensive defenseman dont mix on the same team. Brent Burns wasnt great when he was in San Jose with him. now Kris Letang has not benefited from his addition as well. he belongs in Ottawa

  2. I'm a long time Sens fan who owns 2 Karlsson jerseys, it would be cool to see him back here, but it wouldn't work with his current salary.. i could see him come back as a UFA for the last couple years of his career when this contract is over

  3. All the defenseman that could pair with him play thr right besides kleven and that would make Karlsson a 3rd pair guy, and he can't do that at even 5 mil

  4. As a Penguins fan god I hope this happens soo much! I would be happy with pretty much anything that got Karlsson out of Pittsburgh.
I don’t want anything for him. Just get him off of the Penguins team.

  5. 4:22 let me answer those questions in the tweet: No they do not have a need for him. No they do not have the space for him. No I do not see him being traded back to Ottawa, unless Ottawa completely tears it down again and needs his cap hit to reach the floor AND the penguins sweeten the deal with a couple of first round picks.
NHL franchises: Ottawa does not want your garbage.

  6. I loved King Karlsson when he played in Ottawa, but no way should the Sens bring him back, especially on an 11.5 million contract. I think we need more Zub or Jensen like players, not the "offensive defencemen" Dorion had such a passion in acquiring when he was GM. The only thing I like about Karlsson is he is a right handed D, but there are 11.5 million reasons why we cannot welcome him back now.

  7. Ottawa has Yakemchuch coming up next year. Go for the young RHD and forget about the past. EK was good when he was here but it’s over. We have moved on.

  8. With 11.5m. You're probably gonna have to include picks to get rid of that contract, or a HUGE PERCENTAGE kept (minimum 50%). With Crosby, Malkin and Letang getting up there in age. The Pittsburgh picks are just too valuable to get rid of right now. Ill never understand why they wanted him soo bad, rather than trying to sign Guentzel. Trading Karlsson won't be easy for the Pittsburgh.

  9. Much I like like to see Karlsson back ,Ottawa Senators has to give up a lot to get him, and the value of the trade will be a lot, look what San Jose Sharks gave up, that insacly what Senators will give up,that will hurt the Senators future players and stars, the Senators needs to be careful here

  10. I started imagining deals that would never go through due to Pittsburgh never going for them.

One of them was if Pittsburgh retained $10.5 million per every year remaining on his contract while giving up Karlsson and we would give up JBD. However, looking at the age of the players that isn't enough from an Ottawa perspective. Pittsburgh would need to give up an additional second round pick but likely a first round pick on top of the salary retention.

    The upshot:
Pittsburgh is stuck with Karlsson for the rest of Karlsson's contract.

  11. You should make a video on how Raymond isn’t scoring goals, 12 assists tho mainly secondary assists

  12. Sens fan here. Nope! That contract is nasty for zero defense. He absolutely NEVER should have been a defenseman. He has always been a terrible D man, I remember his first game with the Sens and he was never a defenseman. However, as a winger? Oh yeah! He kills it. That is what he really is, a forward, and he is really good! He was always little bit of drama. He pitched a bit of tude when he was assigned to the B Sens in his rookie year like everyone has to do. The whole Hoffman thing was cringy, even though Hoff is nowhere near the league anymore. But we really, really do NOT need another swiss cheese defenseman. And that contract isn't worth the trouble for nostalgia when we have the firepower up front, we just need to deploy it more effectively. Besides, I just cant see this ever happening to begin with. He doesnt fit into the Sens plan or budget, i mean, they keep sending Gaudette and Ostapchuk to the B Sens to clear cap at the deadline…but if we keep struggling, who knows?

  13. With Yakemchuck in the wings and if Pittsburgh retained part of his contract Ottawa might be ready to trade Chabot for #65 as Chabot's contract may be getting rich.

  14. I think personally it would be a bad idea, The locker room would get confused. If he were to come back, I wouldn't pay him much of anything.. Number 1 he is getting old, Number 2 he left Ottawa without hardly any hesitant in doing so. I would wat an apology from Karlsson before he steps foot on the ice again.

  15. And the penguins get? No real salary works here unless it's zub perron. Kinda hard for me to see a deal like this go down. It be a huge fail from the penguins side.
Also why would they trade karlson when he is producing. Penguinshave terrible goaltending
Ryan graves is not working out.. their depth is atrocious having drew o Conner already at a -14 as alongside of newly acquired Hayes and accari. Besides that maybe they need a coaching change. Dubas has not helped. Again on paper it may look nice but it dosent mean it is practical.

You can force pieces to fit, meaning penguins devlopment isn't the best. Losing guentzel clearly makes the penguins less dynamic. Bunting should be playing well with Crosby but that's also not working. Dubas shouldn't not be a gm. They need Mario to step in here

  16. It’s a feel good story , but financially and the fact that Ottawa now preaches DFirst, it’s highly unlikely or near impossible that it could happen!

  17. Meth is still around the CTC a lot …. maybe we should give him a league minimum for a year to provide EK’s defense…

Seriously. I loved EK. But that ship sailed a long time ago. Yak will be here next year.

  18. Honestly @LegoRocks99 dude Karlsson is terrible defensively where he wasn’t great in the Ceci – Karlsson pairing was absolutely terrible. You just need to not have him playing the defensive side of the puck or you’re gonna really suck.

  19. Pittsburgh retains salary for future considerations. If an EK trade needs a roster player or picks, then it is a non-starter.

  20. With Geno on Sid's wing, how good would Mikael Granlund look now at 2nd line center?
    Mikael Granlund: 17GP/7G/11A/18Pts
    Evgeni Malkin: 17GP/5G/13A/18Pts Crosby: 17GP/6G/10A/16Pts
Last season Granlund was a playmaker on a "CORE" level. Crosby: 82GP/52A, Granlund: 69GP/48A, EK65: 82GP/45A, Letang: 82GP/41A, Malkin: 82GP/40A. Granlund vs Geno. Granlund: 69GP/60Pts, Malkin: 82GP/67Pts. Granlund's contract is up after this year.
As you can see with Granlund's numbers in San Jose, EK65 was a "San Jose mirage".
P.S. Granlund in Pittsburgh under Sullivan: 21GP/1G/4A/5Pts

  21. EK65 to the Sens for Josh Norris and Ridly Greig and Nick Cousins. Pens would still need a EK65 replacement.
    GET IT DONE DUBAS!!!!!!!!!!!
Or EK65 for Claude Giroux, Ridly Greig and Nick Cousins. I don't know when it comes to balancing $10 AAV.

  22. as someone who watches every Senators game, i can say with confidence…EK is the LAST player Ottawa needs. They need Mattias Ekholm type player. A super steady D with a touch of offensive upside.

  23. Ottawa is already near the cap, why would they want EK back? Don't get me wrong, the only reason they'd get EK back is if they do have a trade for something else. The Sens don't really need another defensive liability. Not including that the Sens are trying to get bigger and harder to play against, EK might be a step away from that.

  24. EK does not fit the Sens style of play this season, Travis green is preaching defense and would most likely keep benching him for coughing up the puck lol. I loved watching EK play for the sens back in the day but those days are loooooong gone!

  25. If Ottawa does end up acquiring Karlsson at any time, it would be sure that Ottawa’s chemistry with the defence would be great. With the veterans of Giroux, Jensen, Amadio, Cousins, Ullmark, I think our defence is going somewhere.
Our offence is good. It’s the defence that lacks. Our defence needs to start playing better. Which is why we need someone like Karlsson, with the ability to be both a defensive player & an offensive player I think karlsson would bring good chemistry to the defence with Yakemchuk being a Top defender, the only problem with this is Karlsson’s contract, with how the cap is I don’t know if Ottawa could afford Karlsson.
