Coulda traded Matta instead back then
I just went poop
Have completely lost confidence in Yzerman. It’s very sad. I have stopped watching. I can’t handle it.
We know he dropped the ball on this one already….
He was not traded for assets. He was given away together with s second round pick… San Jose straight up pickpocketed Yzerman.
Yzerman needed the cap space. Jake played bad for the Wings last year. Holl is outplaying what Jake did last year.
Huge mistake is an understatement. Yzerman is operating off of half a brain cell.
In the grand scheme of things, Walman does not push the envelope for Detroit. However… would I have preferred we moved Maatta instead of Jake to SJS? 100%
Yup!
The yzerscum needs to resign and check himself into a mental institution
Wallmen was traded because Yzerman didn’t like him personally…Also, let’s not forget we traded another great defenseman to Vancouver…
Has Walman done "the griddy" yet for San Jose? 😂
The Walman move was largely cap related, but you can't argue our defense is much worse outside the top pair. Gostisbehere also doing great. Yzerman needed to keep at least one of the two.
Never understood this trade. By far Stevie Ys worst. It had to be some sort of personal issue??
Maata and Walman are just a couple of cap casualties caused by bad contracts given to Copp/Compher/Holl. Too much cap space tied up in marginal players.
Pretty sure this trade was made with the expectation of Trouba coming over
FIRE STEVE YZERMMAN HE IS A LOSER EVERSINCE THEY HIRED HIM AND STUPID TRADES FROM DAY 1 AND STILL
I like Maatta, he’s solid, but Walman is better. Maatta got the Wings a 3rd but SY could manage anything but the give-away for fan favorite Walman? I’m a fan, not a GM but this is still questionable at its very best. You could have replaced any defender on the Wings not named Edvinsson or Seider with Walman and has a slightly better defense but immensely better blue line offense. Anything short of a playoff spot makes this look like a major fumble.
It’s not like the team can get any WORSE at this point.
I mean how were the Wings going to sign Seider and Raymond with Walman on contract?
I don't see how you can call the Maata trade a huge mistake. The Wings got a decent return on a player that was rotating games as the 6-8th Dman. Trading him also doesn't really impact how much time Holl gets, except for the few times they might play Johansson on his off-hand side. What trading him does is it frees up roster space to keep Kasper up, and allows them to accumulate cap space for Kane's bonuses, or roster moves later potentially.
As for griping about the Walman trade, its silly at this point. No one knows why he was traded but there's one thing we do know, that was most certainly the best deal SY could get. Before anyone chirps yes Walman was traded, at least in part, due to some bad contracts by SY. He also was traded in part because of his bad season, and quite possibly some other issues we aren't aware of. It seemed at the time like the Walman trade was at least related to the Trouba trade that wasn't, but some more recent reports puts some question on that so who knows?
I have no clue what he is doing. We gave up walman, maata, and geistebehere. Those defensemen were fantastic last year, even though points were low. They knew where to be and when and now they are going to kill it, not on the wings. I get there not going to make it to stanley cup, but we were better last year than this year defensively.
SY has not done well. He no longer gives us fans the good feelings of we are coming back. Bad contracts and holding some youth back in GR by bad veteran signings. Wings are, so far, very difficult to watch this season.
If it's not clear that multiple people in the locker room did not like Walman and didn't want him around then you're not paying attention. That being said, Yzerman built a dumpster fire.
traded cause he did the griddy lol
gotta love the yzerplan 😂
Yzerman overthinks the whole process of rebuilding
Walman straight up is not good defensively. The Griddy stuff got embarrassing
Walman has been outstanding for the Sharks. Easily their best defender this season. The 2nd round draft pick was the cherry on top.
No, because im getting to see Kasper and Edvinsson play in a permanent roster spot.
