Reaves is a joke and has no place in the nhl. Im a leafs fan and the day we got him i didnt understand why. I know all the leafs are wimps but this guy is a joke.
That was a clean hit on a guy who had his head down. Previous oilers were much dirtier then Reaves, look at Messier and his hits, makes Reaves hit look very clean.
This isn't a dirty hit. Ive played hockey for many years, first thing coaches tell you, "keep your head up out there." Reaves is shorter than Nurse and made the calculation that they would be the same height if he was slumped over a 2-4 inches. So,he probably thought itd be shoulder on shoulder or shoulder on chest. He didn't leave his feet or use his elbow. Brutal hurt but not dirty. The league has changed a lot since the Scott Stevens days.

Ryan Reaves is probably the last goon or enforcer in the NHL. Let's hope he will be the last. Red Horner was probably the first enforcer. Hockey doesn't need players like that anymore.

I love tough, hard hitting hockey. But the league sucks at making the rules clear on head shots. “Principal point of contact” is a horrible standard. Players wear weapons on their shoulders and elbows nowadays. Grazing someone’s shoulder on your way to a head shot is a joke.
Here’s a very simple, straightforward standard for hits:
-The hitter must adjust the height/level of his hit to make contact with “hittee’s” shoulder or chest. If the hitter is unable to lower his hit to the height/level of opponents shoulder/chest and as a result makes head or chin contact, it’s an illegal hit.
This solves the problem and is a clear, easy to understand and enforce standard that will keep hitting in the game (as it should be), and prevent brain damage. What is crucial is that the hitter must bend his knees or lower his body for the hit.

Nurse had his head down. Reeves went for puck. Add those two up and outcome is all but guaranteed. Illegal hit yes. Stupidity by nurse yes. When reeves is on the ice you need to pay attention. If your head is down you will get smoked and the odds of contact to the head are 100%.
Leafs fans should be suspended for booing that call. It was a violent hit to the head. Nothing else matters. No excuses.

Dude should of kept his head up. Wasn't really that brutal. Even the announcers knew that it wasn't that crazy. He used his sholuder and never left his feet. I barely watch pro sports anymore specifically because of how tamed down they have become. You getted paid millions for a reason.
Possibly the worst hit to the head that I’ve seen since the 90’s early 2k’s. Paul Kariya comes to mind…
