tough call imo. Hedman completely closed him off, but mercer could have slowed down and concede the puck. I don't blame him, most players would run the goalie there too.
I agree with the call… no reason acceptable for a offensive player to make contact with a goalie in the paint… and the he pushed me excuse.. well my friend, you just told me you were too close.
What is happening with the pathetic level of judgement the NHL is having with referees the past decade? I propose we let AI handle it and just give one of these dumbass bozos the responsibility to drop the puck.
Love the people that say the defense should stop playing defense… he took the angle he did knowing a bigger guy was coming from his left. Puck carriers fault 10 times out of 10.
Thanks for putting this one up, I only get to see the condensed games on the NHL app (i'm in Scotland) and didn't get to see what caused this penalty. A poor call no doubt, but we weren't exactly having a good game overall anyways.
Die hard Devils fan here. I don’t agree with the call. But I don’t think it was the worst call ever. From the rear angle, it DOES look like Hedman shoves him. But viewing from the front angle, it doesn’t look like Hedman pushes him at all. He’s just in his way. Then if you look back from the rear, I think that that holds true. That said – the ref is false by claiming “you gotta avoid him”. That makes no sense lol. He was trying to avoid him with a deke to score a goal. Hedman was in his way. The only way he could’ve avoided him, would be to bail on attempting to score a goal lol
The NHL is softer than cricket at this point. They should just have designated standing spots that they cant move from like the old table hockey game where the player can only move about 6 inches or pass… What a joke

Hot mic = someone is caught talking live on broadcast. Not necessarily involving profanity
ref is smoking something hedman obviously pushed him into the goalie

The Canucks announcing crew maybe 15, 20 seconds before Blackhawks 2nd goal 😄 hashtag sus, hashtag pause
This is a perfect clip, a rare time we get to hear an explanation given to a player.

Hedman drove him right into Johansson

I like how Mercer gets called for being pushed into the goalie and then Hedman gets nothing for dropping the gloves
His skate angle like he wants to avoid to goalie until headman pushes him
Goalies have become just as protected as QB's. How do these full time NHL refs make just as many bad calls as part time NFL refs?
Imagine forcing a player into your own goalie and then getting upset about it. 😂

Eh….huh? Hopefully the ref reviews that play and thinks to himself, “my bad”.
Hedman pushed/guided him in! 😂😂
one of the worst calls I've ever seen
another horseshit call from an NHL ref .. perfect ! – fkn idiots, 100% pushed into goalie
bull shiet, he was run into the goalie
Damn imagine trying to fight Hedman, I saw that glove come off and said oh no
Hurting the opposing goalie is an underutilized strategy. I'd like to see more teams implement this, it could lead to more Ws.
That made no sense. Hedman give him no chance to avoid the goalie. Gosh the refs sometimes 😅
he was cutting left Hedman is at fault for pushing him into his own goalie , no penalty should have been awarded

Theres lots of plays where the guy drives the net, and goes right through the paint, and gives themselves no outs.
This isn't one of those plays.
He skates clear past if headman doesnt direct him in.

WOW
He…uh…tried to avoid him, but Hedman wouldn't allow it.
4 minutes for hedman
Hedman is one of the dirtiest players. He has no right to get upset. He's probably done some of the same thing dozens of times.
100% on Hedman
should have been 5 for hedman for fighting since he dropped gloves
Bad call.. Devils lost.. On to the next game
Listen to these idiot Lightning announcers, biased. He was pushed right into him it's so obvious
More doodoo refs

Headman strong armed his knee with his stick which changed his direction of travel tf you mean ref?
Ridiculous call. Hedman, a much bigger man, clearly pushed Mercer and rode him into his own goalie.
