You make a great point about the Canes getting deep in the playoffs. We lost a big playoff performer in Kuznetsov. The Canes HAVE to go get someone at the deadline if we want to break our Eastern Conference Final curse.
We lost good talent but locking up cornerstone pieces was more important. If Necas has an incredible year, I doubt the team could keep him once his contract is up.
Canes lack a true 2nd line and are really missing a true 2nd line center to make a run.
Jarvis is going to have a breakout year. His skating against the Capitals should have embarrassed them. Talk about circle the wagons. If that didn't make you smile, then you don't love hockey. Keep shooting the puck Seth. Aho, get mean. Burnes don't take any prisoners, IE Ovechkin. Make him take a different shot, dang. He is going to break a record taking the same shot over and over.
ill admit i was worried too, i think a stat was shown during the first game of the season that the players that left accounted for like 30% of our total points. so far so good though!
The Canes playoff issues boils down to coaching. Yes I said it. I hate to say it but it's true. Last years line combos in round two were way off!!! Line one was great. Line two RBA had two checkers, Martinook and Drury with Necas. No offensive help at all for Necas who had a great first round. Zero offense Drury at 2C??? Third line is really the Canes fourth line as it is a checking line was completely botched. You never seporate Martinook and Staal!!!!! Yes Fast was out but Neosen would have been the perfect replacement. Instead they had Teravainen Staal Jarvis. Staal looked painfully slow playing with those two and it didn't work. Plus you now have lost the best checking line in the league. The relentless checking of Staal and Martinook is what was missing. The forth line was made up of left over players KK Kuzy Noesen. Teravainen Kuzy Necas was very good after the trade. KK Drury Jarvis could have been a good line. Then Martinook Staal Noesen would have worn down the Rangers.
Rod is a "Stay the course" coach to a fault. In the playoffs you do not have that time in the season for things to work themselves out. You have to make changes when things are not working!
Today I made a comment that nobody was talking about the HOT Canes including DFO. My bad! I missed the show yesterday. But still if the Oilers were playing like the Canes you would here nothing else.
In the last three seasons, the Canes have had 111, 113, and 116 points in the regular season.
