There is NO PLACE in the NHL for this

Exactly a week ago, the NHLPA announced they were officially forming an advisory committee with a focus on CTE. This was the first ever acknowledgment by the NHL of the fact that repeated blows to the head can cause CTE. We see it every season at some point, a player making a bad decision with a hit that has no place in the game and last night as the LA Kings hosted the Vancouver Canucks, we got easily the worst hit so far this season. It was only the first period, there had been no real animosity between the teams PLUS the Kings had opened the scoring and therefore had a lead when Tanner Jeannot for whatever reason laid a nasty, late, blindside hit on Brock Boeser who went down. Jeannot clearly targeted Boeser from a distance, had plenty of time to change his path after Boeser no longer had the puck but he committed anyway clipping Boeser straight to the chin. This is an incredibly dangerous hit and could absolutely end a guys career. I talk about that and everything else this game had to offer like Quinn Hughes continuing his dominance in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. It took me 27 years to even give sports a chance. When I fell in love with hockey, I realized why. I just can’t stand seeing people get hurt.

  2. This type of behavior should be banned. That remorseless douchebag shouldn’t be allowed on the ice. For those who disagree, what if someone dies and then potentially no more hockey or at the very least a ton of new rules that will transform the game to such an extent that the action on the ice will be significantly decreased resulting in making the game boring?

  3. Want to remove this from the game? Create a new rule for illegal checks/hit to the head match penalties. 10 minute power play which continues regardless of whether the team on the power play scores plus an automatic 10 game suspension. If the match penalty is under 10 minutes left in the game, suspension increases up to 25 games.

  4. Look at US football. Helmets have increased in size, players are allowed to wear additional impact cushions on the helmet to further reduce head injuries in both practice and games. Ice hockey inherently has a high risk of concussions due to extremely high speed and fixed boards. The livelihoods of these elite players should be worth more than the traditional look of the hockey helmet.

  5. Bettman is just delaying to retire before the big CTE lawsuits come in. Jeannot's hit was bad as he had so much time to abort impact or at least get low. Funny, whinny Hughes jawing at Clarke who might actually rival him one day for the Norris. Clarke is the real deal. The Hughes are all great, but I feel the real impact one will be Luke who has decent NHL playoff size.

  6. The chicken wing and the smirk…I’m an old Kings fan and tbh this was bush. No place for it.

  7. If they want to take this seriously there should be no max suspension length. The length of suspension should match the length of injury.

  8. The call on the head shot to Matthew Knies was beyond absurd. I think the guy in the booth has a head shot coin that he flips to make a decision. And I think the coin he uses is different for different teams.

  9. Solution is simple – any intial contact to the head results in RED CARD (soccer) and team plays man down for remainder of game. Would add something like if it happens in the last 10 minutes of 3rd period, team plays man down for 1st period of next game (to avoid targeting when getting blown out and everyone is pissy). This is easily fixable if NHL wants to but I doubt that they do and in 15 years when current players are retired and are showing massive mental impairment or committing suicide at elevated rates, everyone will go…….wonder if we could have done more earlier…………Duh!

  10. Calling league soft for not wanting hits to head. Is like calling your work place in construction soft. For forcing you to wear a safety helmet in a construction or mining site.

  11. Tanner Jeannot is such a clown, throws an elbow at Boesers head, and smirks when given a match penalty. What a joke… 🤡

  12. If this was 1981 fine. 2024 knowing what we know about head injuries and the lifelong danger, no way, no room, no place, no how. Suspensions and fines must be much greater for this type of flagrant hit to the head. For the NHL to allow this all they are doing in the long run is thinning their own talent pool. There will be parents who put their kid in soccer instead of ice hockey because of seeing garbage hits like this. Get it together NHL.

  13. Ugly hit to the head yes! But, Boeser for sure saw someone in black creeping up that’s not the worst blindsiding hit seen. And secondly that was bang bang as far as timing of the hit, it was a dirty aim to the head but as far as timing goes he’s finishing a check

  14. Things might be looking pretty terrible for my Preds right now, but getting rid of this guy was an out of the park homerun!

  15. Absolutely terrible hit. Complete targeting the head penalty. It’s a few weeks later and Reeves just did the same thing to Nurse from the Oilers. No doubt a targeted hit to the head, where Leafs fans were blaming Nurse for not having his head up. You be the judge.

  16. Does it take a player end up in a wheelchair to finally get the NHL to wake the hell up. Minimum 20 games gone.

  17. This is why i support fist fights in hockey. If the dude had beef and wasnt scared to scrap it would have been much less traumatic than this. I think discouraging fights will lead to people taking their aggression out this way

  18. As a Kings fan, I’m saddened by this, by a King’s player. Hurting someone intentionally, with a hit to the head, to win the game is NOT OKAY. SHAME ON YOU KINGS. 😡😡😡. And then to laugh about it…. Jeannot, you disgust me.

  19. Vancouver don’t have any one to go after him. Lots of these hits don’t happen when a tough guy is present.

  20. The players are bigger, the pace is much, much faster, these sorts of hits will invonvlutary happen. It is bound to.
