Ovechkin injured by McBain – Tough Call Review

Alex Ovechkin’s race to destiny has been temporarily derailed by this collision with Jack McBain. I stress the word “collision.”

  1. I can't say it looks like a dangerous colision at all. Ovi's just aged and fragile. Thinking about beating the record of the great Gretzky is just funny. Time to go to AHL, old man. "Hershey Bears" sounds like a nice team to finish the career of an old bear. Your time is over, and that's totally OK.

  2. I feel kinda bad because I've been joking about someone injuring him so he can't break Gretzky's goal record. I don't dislike him at all and actually find him exciting and fun to watch but at the same time I don't want a Russian player having that record (my full bias says i wouldnt care if it was a Canadian player about to do it). We all know if he's able to stay healthy after he comes back he's going to break it

  3. I was just telling a friend of mine a few days before this happened that the really amazing thing is how durable OV had been during his career and he's hardly missed any games which has helped his goal record chase.

  4. Fucking dirty as hell.. As a player its a ridiculous play. So first off ovi is in a turning motion he is vulnerable as hell. With his leg extended thats a no go for leg on leg contact. Dude literally stopped playing the puck to play ovi. If he hit him with the body it would have been interference so he basically makes contact in a way that looks incidental. But thats 100% intentionally done and he isnin a good position to move his leg out of the way. He didnt have to touch him honestly. Thats dirty i dont like it at all one bit.

  5. I think it's really easy for some to see this as malicious or intentional when you see it in slow-motion. But when you look back from 0:00 and see at which speed these players go, the way McBain came with the puck and was trying to do an offensive play, from the moment he lost the puck to protas at 0:03 to where he crossed ovechkin's path, there's less than a second to react there.
While it's true that maybe Mcbain could possibly have made more efforts to avoid ovechkin, ultimately all players of both teams try to get to the puck first and that's what happens here.

With all this evidence I really can see no way of how this could've been intentional from McBain. If you want to look what intentional hurting looks like, just watch and learn from Brad Marchand.

  6. Id want to hate McBain here but it doesn’t look like that bad of a collision if it was like a devastating scott stevens hi5 id take it seriously.

  7. This is sad because he fell on-top of the fracture meaning the healing couldve shifted the fibula from the alignment. I hope no surgery.
