The impact may have caused a carotid artery dissection. Amongst other things this can cause the artery to swell at the impact point which then presses on nerves. Just speculation of course.
Wishing Dylan a speedy recovery. Glad to see that, no matter what the battles are on the ice, the players still recognize when a fellow player is having a health and/or injury issue, and can put that aside for a few minutes.
Wondering if it hit a artery or vein and slowed/cut off the supply of blood to the brain? Doesn't seem like a spot that would effect the spinal cord and there is an Artery that runs near there and across the collar bone i think…..scary as hell Reminds me of back in the 90s when Pronger also playing for the Blues was KO'd by a puck tot he chest against Detroit. Pretty sure he fell off the stretcher as they lifted him into the ambo too
thanks for the video. surprising that more players dont wear neck protectors (even if in this case it probably wouldnt have made a big difference but who knows … may have softened the hit a little bit.) glad it sounds like he ll be ok though. đ
You should show what happened to Ehlers last night! Got double teamed by 96 and 62 From Colorado in front of their net! Not a respectable move by Mikko given the whistle didnât blow yet and the puck was still lose! Shouldâve been a roughing call on 96 or 62 for sure! Because it was a 2v1. Happens in most cases
"From what Iâve been told, the puck hit the vagus nerve in my neck and as soon as I got hit I knew something was a little off, but then I saw we got a two-on-one so I couldnât pass up that opportunity. As soon as I got to the bench I was feeling a little woozy. I donât really remember much from there until I was on the stretcher close to the ambulance. Holloway says he immediately knew something wasnât quite right but initially only felt âlightheadedâ before blacking out. "As soon as the puck hit my neck I knew something was a little off. As soon as I started skating I felt a little lightheaded," he added. "When I was going to the bench it kind of felt like when you stand up too fast, it felt like that head rush but it just kept coming on and then I was out." Asked whether he was aware of what was happening, Holloway replied: âNo, I donât know what I thought was going on but I didnât even know that they stopped the game. "I got told by our head trainer that I just felt weird on the bench and then the next thing I knew I was awake on the stretcher close to the ambulance." "I didnât realize that they stopped the game, I didnât realize it was actually that big of a deal but Iâm just thankful that everybody and all the medical staff were so hands-on and were able to get me to hospital safely. I left the hospital last night at about 11pm. They had to run some tests and stuff because I guess when you get hit in the neck itâs obviously a scary area and it could have been a lot worse."
Prayers for him and hopefully he will be back on the ice soon. đ Sounds like things so far are going well, based on the comments section, and wishing him a speedy recovery. đ
Im crying.. that is scary, i played junior A, was hit in the jugular..carried on for rest of shift, then ..i remember nothing, just my nerves burning and dizziness and loss of mobility. I hope Dylan is o.k.
I was just horrified when i heard the announcers saying "theres something going on on the bench", because my mind immediately went to what happened with Bouwmeester collapsing
I was trying to separate frozen wieners with a serrated knife, it slipped and I can remember the vibration of the serrations when the knife stopped at the finger bone at one of my my knuckles, I said a few words that rhymed with duck then raised my hand to look at my wound and immediately vagaled out slumping to the floor. The delay was maybe 15 seconds between cutting and falling but after just a minute or so I came to and was fine. Itâs definitely a weird feeling and a little scary.

could the puck have hit Nd broke his collarbone?
Neck guard could have protected that, wish him a speedy recovery but man they need to be mandatory
Please be okay! đ

True hockey player holding on to his stick like his life depended on it.
Im going to guess he's extremely lucky he didnt get crushed into the boards at 3:18
Whatâs crazy is it showed Saad being hit, but I was the prior shift when Holloway was hit with the puck, confused me at first I was like huh

Praying that he will make a full and speedy recovery. It appears that they took full protective measures as precautions. I hope!
Guys really need to wear those neck guards.
Broken jugular?
Really glad his parents were at the game and able to be with him at the hospital. Wish him the best
Dylan met with the Blues media today, about 30m ago. Said he hopes to play tomorrow and so far all tests came back good.
Last I heard he's already back to at the rink ready to skate.
Broken collarbone?
"Oh moi" @5:23 lmao..
Similar to straining so hard on the toilet that you pass out.

For anyone wondering, he is completely fine.
Blues fans. Really bad flashbacks with this

Delayed Vagus nerve reaction? oof scary!
Im crying.. that is scary, i played junior A, was hit in the jugular..carried on for rest of shift, then ..i remember nothing, just my nerves burning and dizziness and loss of mobility.
I hope Dylan is o.k.
These guys are tough as nails!
Reminds me of jiri fischer in detroit going into cardiac arrest on the bench back in 05.
Keep getting your vaccines boys and girls!
All the shit talking and beating each other up on the ice, it's still a brotherhood. Sending prayers to Holloway!
How many covid shots did he take?
Watched it live
Thatâs why he should have stayed on the oilers
Why arenât these guys wearing neck protection?
I was just horrified when i heard the announcers saying "theres something going on on the bench", because my mind immediately went to what happened with Bouwmeester collapsing
Cracked his collar bone?

Blocking shots is nonsense.
In no way a Bolts fan, but good on them for stopping the ref. A lot of respect for them.
I love when you do the dual feeds! Could you put which feed is for each team? đ I always try to figure it out but cant!
