No, this legitimately isn’t clickbait. Today we’re talking about the Detroit Red Wings defence pairing of Troy Stecher and Marc Staal, that in which has proceeded to be the best pairing in the entire NHL in expected goals against per 60 minutes.

Troy Stecher was a former Vancouver Canucks defenceman who signed a contract in free agency with Detroit, while Marc Staal is a former New York Rangers defender who was recently traded to the Red Wings.

  1. I'm not so surprised because the 2 guys are REALLY Solid of course absolutly not the kind of flashys defensemen at all But… their defensive game are more than just fine So it's definitly not surprising

  2. Marc Staal is a statistical enigma. Goals against his own team aside, the dude can still play hockey. He's actually becoming one of my favorite veterans, just because he tries so hard out there.

  3. Love seeing Stetcher out there, he really works hard and makes good contributions when he gets a chance on the ice. Unlike Nemeth, who seems to playing almost 20 minutes a game. Stetch needs more time!

  4. Stats are overrated I want every Wings game Marc Staal can't make three stick Handles in a row. Troy stecher needs to come back as soon as humanly possible

  5. Don't understand why people are so down on Staal I watch a lot of Red Wing games online because I live in Bay area now. Sure he makes mistakes on occasion, but on the whole think he's a good pickup. On top of that we're going to get a second draft pick for him. Winner winner chicken dinner

  6. This is a surprising fact that I wasn't aware of, but Staal hasn't been the liability that many were predicting. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Stevie manages to get another pick by flipping him at the deadline. As far as Stetcher is concerned, I still can't believe we signed him – how the hell did the Canucks let him go for nothing?????

  7. That Stat excites me as to the possibilities of what we may be able to get for Stahl. I wasn't very optimistic about trade value until this. Even then, any more picks would be great to get for us.

  8. They also don't play as many minutes as those top pairs. But, good for Stech! He put in the effort in Vancouver. Hopefully Detroit keeps him after the rebuild is done.

  9. The one thing I've really appreciated about Staal is his willingness to block shots. Even though a few of those bounce off of him and still go in, he's probably prevented quite a few goals.

  10. i am really hoping stevie can pull some magic and sign stecher fairly long term. ive liked his play so far.

  11. You never make videos on The islanders, considering they are top of their division and have won 7 in a row. They are a dangerous team that’s very underrated.

  12. Steal has not been bad. Detroit fans are horrible to d men overall. We have had some great ones in recent memory. I love Stetcher. Sorry/not sorry Vancouver. It wouldn't be a disaster is Steal sticks around another year. Sieder – Staal just for one year would gain the kid some awesome veteran experiences from another big d man..

  13. What a goal last night (3/11) by Stecher versus TB!

Why did Vancouver not sign him for an affordable long term deal?

Kid reminds me of a young Kris Draper with his energy.

  14. Stetcher is better than Staal though, but Staal is still good, don't get me wrong. It is just that Stetcher is…. carrying I guess, so if there were 2 Marc Staal's it would be a bit worse. Honestly Stetcher is starting to get up on my favorite red wings by skill. I'd say other than Larkin and maybe Bertuzzi Stetcher is the best SKATER not goalie, Bernier is amazing

  15. I can't see Yzerman trading Marc Staal. He's helping with the development of younger players and brings experience to the team.

  16. Staal is a big, strong, experienced, his technique is virtually perfect, and he thinks the game extremely well; however he's really slow in a game that's getting faster every year. Stecher, however, is small and sound technically, but fast and the hardest worker on the ice. The pairing allows each to do what they excel at while making up for the weaknesses of the other. On a pairing with most other defensemen, Staal will likely be exposed a lot more for his speed, or lack thereof. I think Stecher is a lot more versatile, and he likely will show a lot more 2-way potential as part of another pairing.

  17. #2 ain't too shabby either XD Those two kids well, maybe fox could be a HOF in the making, lindgren too!
