Borowiecki needs help getting up after Smith sends him into the boards

Mark Borowiecki would need help getting off the ice after trying to chase down a puck and taking a hit from Brendan Smith.

  1. Clearly interference, that was interference 15 years ago and it's interference now, nothing to do with the league being soft. Dirty hit.

  2. I’ve honestly seen plays almost parallel to this happen at least a dozen times, and it wasn’t called for anything. Everything changes when someone gets hurt so we’ll see what the league does.

  3. Let's start this off by saying that this exact play happened ever night in the NHL, 2 players going after a puck collide and battle. No penalty is ever called. In this situation both players clearly look at each other, knowing they are going to collide before reaching the puck. Unfortunately Borwecki is caught off balance and is tossed akwardly into the boards. Imagine if he didn't get caught off balance and simply got pushed to the side into the boards. Would that be a penalty? No, same play by Smith, no penalty. The only reason this is called a penalty is because of what happened to the player. Second of all, Bobby Ryan Clearly hits Zuccarelo from behind after the play is dead, that's way more illegal than what Smith did. Not only was it from behind, unlike Smiths hit, is after the play is dead and the players are not battling for the puck. But no, that's clean, because he's defending a teammate? People think because a player gets hurt it's a automatic suspension. Smith shouldn't have even been penalized on the play.

  4. The only dirty play here was Ryan hitting Zuccarello after the whistle. What Smith did happens ALL THE TIME, the player just happened to fall really badly. Hope he is ok.

  5. If hockey was rougher maybe we would not see plays like this. Respect was real high amongst players when it was rough back before I was a wee-sperm. The game is so quick how can we get mad for players hitting boards so hard. It's gonna happen. It's not like he held his head aiming for boards. It's gonna happen. People just like to see people punished. We have to educate are selves and learn are battles. I do hope borowieki has a quick and strainless recovery. Some sort of educational punishment would be best. Words instead of actions. Games suspended is a Wierd punishment. They don't handle shot like that on my planet. They just throw em to the hulk. Let the hulk handle it. Wow. Wtf is wrong with me.

  6. Players go shoulder to shoulder 100 times a game before getting to a puck in the corners. Unfortunately this time smith outmuscled him and he was in a dangerous spot on the ice and it looked pretty bad. Not worth a suspension. Thats a 2 minute minor for interference

  7. This is a hockey play and just something that happens… if you look close Boro looks like he was going to hit Smith if he didn't hit him first…

  8. Deserves a suspension. Borowiecki is racing Zuccarello for the puck and gets blindsided by Smith before getting close to it. He has no chance to react to the hit or hitting the boards after. He got a concussion but could have gotten seriously more injured had he hit the boards differently. Blindsided hits at high speeds into boards like that are some of the most dangerous plays in hockey.

  9. This is a penalty in the new watered down, pussified NHL. They didn't even include this in the condensed game– those NHL fairies. They're both going for the puck and it was shoulder to shoulder.

  10. Whether it was a harmless shove that he went down awkwardly from, or it was intentionally dirty, it was still interference. That's the penalty.

  11. Hey the Rangers gotta figure some way to win this year lol………………………….. hurt the other teams players and there ya go

  12. Is no one going to mention that Boro looked directly at Smith prior to contact. These two players both knew that contact was coming. Unfortunately, it was too close to the boards and the injury happened. Interference for sure; it was away from the puck. But, there is no way anyone convinces me it was dirty or that there was intent.
They called five and a misconduct (which I think should be rescinded), but if anything else happens out of this, I'd be surprised. (Of course with the NHL, I've been surprised before.)

  13. This hit should not have been a penalty at all! Both players are going for the puck, both players look at each other before the hit, both players lowered shoulders, the Sen's player got the worst end of it! And the puck was in the area! It's clear the person who stays on his feet will get the puck! Conclusion No SUSPENSION ITS A CLEAN HARD HIT!

  14. If a player is not in possession of the puck, obstructing his way to the puck, by either hitting, or just blocking their path, is clearly interference. Contact is at a dangerous place on the rink, Borowiecki got caught up with Smith, which prolonged to actual fall. Damn man sports are crazy, sometimes it is easy to forget what is actually on the line. Be safe and hope Bro is ok

  15. Deserves at least 2-3 games in my books. 2nd dirtiest play I've seen in the 2017-2018 season (after the Gudas headshot)

  16. Rangers fan here, that was an illegal and dangerous hit. He deserved the 5 min match penalty, probably a fine, but he's no Gudas constantly head hunting guys. I don't think you can say it was an intentionally dirty hit, and given that he doesn't have a history of targeting, I would be surprised to see any suspensions.

  17. LIGHTs OUT ON BROADWAY, SMITH is a no nonsense player and if your going into the boards with a guy like him, EXPECT something NASTY. THE RANGERS were getting pasted like this on a nightly basis, THE ENTIRE LEAGUE KNEW THE RANGERS WERE NOT RETALIATING, and AV FINALLY got a guy who is goiing to 'send a message'. Well, message delivered !
