Went to my first Jets game in 1977 in Shea Stadium, and we've had a few good QBs in the time I've followed them. O'Brien, Pennington, Richard Todd….and as much as I want to quit rooting for a team that will never figure out how to draft a good QB, I can tell you Sam Darnold is garbage.
Here are his completion rates from 2018-2023 (with Mahomes rate in parenthesis)….57.7% (66%) …61.9% (65.9%)… 59.6% (66.3%)…59.9%(66.3%)…58.6%(67.1)….60.9%(67.2%)…..he had one good game against a crappy Giants team, he will come back down to earth to his poor completion rate eventually. And here is the kicker, Darnold has about 1800 attempts compared to Mahomes with over 6000 in the same time span. Darnold is garbage, any QB who has any real talent doesnt end up on 4 teams in 5 years, move on people. nothing to see here.

Not for nothing, but we have seen the Sam Darnold suddenly looks totally elite and then a week or two later the unbelievable falloff. I don't have any hate for Sam, probably a nice kid, but let's give it a few weeks before we crown the era of the Darnoldssance lol

But one thing is for sure this is his LAST chance of being a starting quarterback in the NFL
I just traded Geno for Sam straight up, so I hope he’s for real. I’m a believer.
I suggest to everyone that they go back and look at Sam's 6 games for the Panthers in 2022, and his two cameos with the 49er starters vs the Ravens and Rams and you will see this Sam emerging. I'd argue that it's not a sudden development this season – but more that KOC's scheme, coaching and playcalling, Jettas elite WR play and a solid O Line has just added that final touch to an improving player.
When Kwesi first signed Darnold I thought wtf, because he seemed like a bust, so I went back and watched him at the Panthers to see what I was missing. I was pleasantly surprised. I saw (at least something of) what Shanahan and KOC saw. I do not think this was a one-off and could easily see Sam outplay Purdy this week.
Do you remember when Shanahan first signed Darnold as insurance when Purdy was coming off his injury? There was chatter that it was a legit competition between Darnold and Purdy to start. That was validated by the release/trade of 3 1sts Trey Lance shortly after.
I don't think week 1 was a fluke at all, and I can see Sam playing at this level all season, which should make the league revise it's opinion of the Vikes after 3 or 4 weeks. Sam might be an upgrade over Kirk, instead of the conventional wisdom that assumed downgrade. We have already seen week 1 of Kirk without KOC.
I also don't think that McCarthy was likely to start at all this season unless something went badly wrong, although it is a loss having a downgrade at QB2. KOC had a specific development plan for JJ, and Kwesi spoke about not making the same mistakes that teams often make in starting rookie QBs before they're ready.
I can see a Favre/Rodgers or Montana/Young situation developing in 2025.

A good problem to have? What is Sam balls it out all year and finishes in the top 10 of qb play this year. What do you think the Vikings do with Sam? He is getting the break he rightfully deserves.
I'm waiting til Love gets ruled out so I can stash him if Darnold plays well against 49ers he'll be harder to get.
