We’re referring to Rory Boylen’s article on Sportsnet once more for a video, this time talking about who Boylen labels as the Vancouver Canucks tradable asset heading into the offseason. In this video, we’ll be discussing the idea of the Vancouver Canucks trading their 2016 5th overall pick Olli Juolevi; one of their top prospects who’s still marinating with the Utica Comets in the AHL. Sure, he’s no Matthew Tkachuk, but he’s still something.

Decent content in the video, with a terrible click baity title.
I'd say the smart move will be to hold on with juolevi for the next year. Although there is a log jam on D, if we lose tanev I can see rafferty or juolevi playing a underdog role next year for the canucks whether thats as a call-up or making the team out of camp. Theres no point at trading juolevi with the market value he is at.
I gave Juolevi's draft a lot of leeway, wait and see. Even though he seemed like a decent choice at the time, the consensus was the obvious, unthinking best-pick-available was Tkachuk. And he was. And we're not talking about one player. There were a lot of NHL caliber players they passed on- Keller, Sergachev, Jost, McAvoy, Chychrun, Fabbro. The window is closing for Juolevi. I do think the Canucks have faith in him, and probably won't trade him if he keeps working hard to be ready. I'd give it another year before calling it a write off, be a shame if he never plays even a single game for the team. I'm really hoping it's just a slow development but my patience is running out.
Juolevi’s value is just too low to trade at the moment. Serious injury problems that look to be chronic. Not surprising with him training with Sami Salo, I guess. 😂
His Utica stats need to be taken with a grain of salt. They were actually quite good numbers, 13 points in 18 games after having no offseason as he recovered from a broken back. This season on pace for over 40 point after not playing a game in a year, while playing top mins against teams best players.
As for Rafferty, the Staff in Utica are on record saying he is nowhere near even a fringe NHLER. You remember Derik Pouliot? Ya he was the best D in the AHL, yes he's a bit older than Rafferty but not by much. Joulevi right now would be at worst as good as a fringe D if he were to play here this season. He got boned in Londen where in his D+1 season they gave younger players who would be a part of the new group their prime mins. OJ still put up the same amount of points without that star-studded forward group to get some easy points. He should have been traded to a top team like almost every star player that comes back to a team that is trending down. Simalir to what happened with Woo and countless others.
Being 22 and only playing in 60 games in 2 years with zero offseason training sucks but at the end of the day, at 18 he was playing top pairing mins in Finland under the balls of steel himself and the growth he showed that whole season was stifled for 2 years but talent doesn't go away, at 22 if he's truly healthy, there is zero reason to think he can't catch up to his his ceiling. If that happens our Left side with Hughes, Edler, OJ and Rathbone looks set. Now our right side after Woo who hopefully is the next Bieksa, we are woefully thin. A more likely trade chip would be Virtanen who along with a 1st should get us at least Severson. Tho I'd prefer Risto and would add whatever needed on top of Jake to get it done. This of course if TT is signed and Hoglander at least looks like he will be a top 9 for us. Jake is about to explode IMO, but he needs top 6 mins and pp time. With TT Podz and Hoglander I don't see it happening unless he switches sides and Pearson gets moved. In 2 years a top 4 of Hughes-Woo OJ-Risto, yes please.
He trained with sami salo, no wonder he keeps getting injured lol
God i hope we can get a bag of pucks for him…. Pucks are expensive nowadays
If Juolevi is number 1, I'd say Trympkin is 1A for being trade bait. I think they will both have difficulty cracking the line up. Either that, or we may lose them to Seattle.
I really hope not. Juolevi would be a nice peace behind Hughes for the future
You probably already have, but it'd be cool to hear your take on when you think Hoglander will Crack the lineup and where you think he'd fit in.
Juolevi might be what it takes to trade Loui and sign Toffoli.
Noooo juolevi – woo future second pair
I am quite confident that Juolevi will play some NHL games next season, if hes 100% healthy. The only way I see the Canucks parting with Juolevi is if they have to include him in a Sutter/Eriksson deal. And in that case the Canucks would have to be getting some sort of pick or an NHL ready prospect.
jesse puljujarvi might be good, fresh start for both?
The kid is still a top 4 talent, if we trade him it'll be for less than that. I don't wanna trade him after he's just had some bad luck.
tanev needs to go… stecher is ready for his spot in top 4
I think Juolevis name could come up for a Roster spot. Tanev had a Career high BUT the only time he will play a full season is when it's contract time. The 30 games a season this guy misses is not worth the 4Mill contract and was probably the reason why nobody would take a offer involving this guy. Also Tryamkin plays right and left side so it could be;
Hughes – Edler
Tryamkin – Meyers
Juolevi – Stecher (Rafferty)
I always hope Vancouver would get a defenceman like Letang or Doughty.Pacified defence in playoffs is a losing combo.Right now the most physical Canucks defenceman would be Edler and Benn. Meyers is the friendly giant most of the time.Kind of odd that the two most willing to drop the gloves if they had to would be Benn and Stetcher. No one in the league is afraid to play against the Canucks. I just kind of look at him as being soft.Vancouver does not have one really tough player except for Ferland, and he is a question mark because of concussions.Rip Luke B.May have won us a cup if he did not die. Some times still wake up and cry and think of what might have been. Also Doughty thought Luke was going to be better then he was.
The article in question suggested each team's most tradable asset. As in "an expendable player, who could bring back an asset". I would argue that joulevi does fit this criteria. Who would you suggest is an alternative? Gaudette? Virtanen?
Juolevi for Cholowski.. Cholowski is from Langley which is 15 minutes from Vancouver. Also he's had NHL games the past 2 seasons..
Question Tanev Eddler Benn honestly is it time to let them go ?
Trade Chris Tanev
Olli Juolevi has had horrible luck with injuries then with his game but his coaches said he was finally healthy and his game was back
Trade Benn, Tanev and unload Eriksson to a team so Juolevi has a spot Tramkin wants to come back there is your 6 and use the 6 million to make sure you have the room to sign Hughes and Petterson
Give the pick to the Devils this season
Honestly at this point I’d just trade him for a pick haha
Unless a team is nuts enough to say take Juolevi and say Eriksson in exchange for a 2nd rounder, don't think he's going anywhere.
As usual, your videos are clickbait…!!
You are obviously desperate for views!! Just a bunch of useless jibber jabber!! This is why you get barely any views!
Last year they traded Beiga to Detroit & Ben Hutton walked for us to free up some more spots. This year and lastyear Chatfield struggled in the AHL quite a bit these past two seasons. I dont see him playing with the Canucks or in the NHL for that matter although I do wish him the best. Fantenberg has been a black ace on the Canucks team this year plus he's alot grittier then I initially thought about him and that is certainly something that D-core needs in today's NHL. I see him getting another shot at the team next year. Tanev has another year and his value on this team is higher then it is in most markets I see him getting another year or two extension with the team at roughly 4.5-5 Mil per year Stecher is an RFA, if they can get him in at a hometown discount at 2.25-2.5 Mil. Over the course of a 3-4 year contract that would work well. IMO that leaves Jordie Benn as the odd one out for this team. Local kid, he'll be in the lineup this year most likely.
Edler – Tanev
Meyers – Hughes
Fantenberg – Stecher
Benn
Prospect pool:
Jack Rathbone (NCAA Harvard Captain), Brogan Rafferty, Jett Woo, Olli Juolevi, Ashton Sautner, Guillaume Brosbios, Toni Utunnen & Josh Teves. Solid prospect pool of young Dmen, not the most depth in the NHL amongst prospect defensemen but certainly in the top 5-7. Not all will pan out, but the future looks exciting for this team. 2-3 years from now, IMO this team will be a true contender. Not the GM of the year, but certainly a job well done to Jim Benning and his team.
