Apparently Kovalenko has an NHL Out clause where he needs to be in the NHL on & by Dec 1st or he can go back to Russia.
you guys have never been around hockey players and their equipment. the team did outfit him with all new gear – all brand spanking new gear right down to the cup and garter. hockey players generally don't much care for new gear and most especially not all at once. They will spend hours breaking in a pair of gloves. a new pair of skates can take a week or two. Bednar said he'll be on the ice tomorrow regardless of the gear situation, so you know he was working frantically between film sessions and workouts today to get that stuff as broken in as possible. of course it will be a running joke in the room for the rest of the season, but everyone also understands why he wasn't on the ice with the group today.
