  1. Let’s remember that Matthew was a high school hockey coach, too, so there’s going to be a bunch of kids who will be dealing with this for the year.

  2. So sad for Johnny G. But what about his salary until 2028 ? Still count on CBJ salary cap or able to transfer to LTIL/Buyout/retain/buried ?

  3. Remembering Travis Green from his days as an Islander when he had a reputation for not taking the game as seriously as he should and not always working as hard as other players, his emergence as a "tough coach" is one of the most surprising post-playing-career developments of any retired NHL player in recent memory.

  4. I doubt it’ll open the floodgates because deferring money to a later date decreases the value of the payments because of the time value of money. Most players/agents will likely not go along with it.

  5. I hope it's nothing serious with Nemec, I want him ready to go for the start of the season.

  6. There is no drama in Ottawa because it's the same thing year after year. My brother has lived there for over 20yrs. In 2016 I visited him & we were walking downtown & he said "The plan is they want to move to LeBreton Flats & build an arena" 🗓

  7. cant wait for the hate on vegas when they sign draisaitl with the deferred bonus to year 9

  8. What I read about "deferred-contracts" (from either CJ or Frank) is that players haven't wanted that structure, since they prefer front-loaded contracts rather than wait an extra year to get the full payment.

  9. So does Edmonton dangle Jarvis like deferred bonuses to Leon D and McDavid, being in the cap position there are in?

  10. I could see the deferment thing not being a big deal for younger guys as you can use that bonus money up front to invest and make even more money from it. Now where it could get interesting is for guys who are in their mid 30's who generally start getting 1-2 year deals. Why not take a smaller cap hit and then have money coming in another year. The money doesn't lose as much value over that short term, and you could actually start stacking dollars where you are getting less cap hit for teams but still getting paid well.

  11. If players come into camp out of shape, unless they're just coming off a bad injury, they only have themselves to blame for being out of shape when they're supposed to be professional athletes.

  12. That was the last piece in question for the Hurricanes imo. If Necas comes into form, Svechnikov stays healthy, Jarvis continues to improve, Aho continues to develop, and Kochetkov does what we know he can do. Hurricanes should be at least 2nd in the metro

  13. Living in Ottawa my read it there is frustration from Senators brass with the LeBreton Flats MOU moving towards an agreement with NCC.

    Time will tell

  14. Round about thinking, idk if Carolina can keep Necas, could the league as a whole get him to Columbus? Maybe get a guy like Justin Williams out of retirement too for them?

  15. I just wanted to voice my complete respect and admiration for how you delievered, and ended, your video about Johnny Gaudreau yesterday. Not uploading another video until today and going against your regular routine was also extremely classy. It's this kind of humanitarian and respectful vibe that makes you a favourite to so many hockey fans and people in general. Thank you Shannon.

  16. As someone who hasn't ever played hockey or seen a practice: what's a bag skate?

  17. I think there should be jersey retirements in Columbus and Calgary this year putting 13 in the rafters.

I also think that in calgarys new rink there should be either a statue or a section that is either section 13 or something like “the house that Johnny built” or along those lines. Maybe a “Johnny hockey section.”

Something like the Seahawks do with the 12th man but in a different way?

It’s not very often a pro hockey player passes while under contract, but it’s much more rare when an NHL STAR passes while under contract.

Johnny was a star. Has been for a longggg time. One of the top 15 in the league? Top 20? Calgary and Columbus need to honour him for not only this season but every season after.

    Rip boys.

  18. RIP Matthew and Johnny Hockey. If the deferred payment just disappears, the Canucks should do this with Boeser.

  19. … What do you mean there is a 9th year you can put signing bonuses into? Are, what? HUH? They limited it literally to prevent owners from screwing themselves. You know, Kovalchuk? Suter? Weber? Parise? Luongo? WHY WOULD THEY LEAVE A LOOPHOLE.
