As I stated in that subreddit: FFS! We are not a suburb for other states and their sports teams. You know how you need to be a resident of somewhere (condo, city, etc) to use their municipal pools, recycling center, library? Same rules apply. You’re playing in NJ, then you need to have NJ in your name. PERIOD!

Hopefully this is a little more reason to improve the ice.

OK so they’re the NJ Sirens

Let’s support the team with attendance and show the Sirens why NJ is a good long term market for them. Perhaps they’ll even change their name to NJ down the road if they really put down roots here.

I’m so excited! I will absolutely be taking my daughter to see these games! They were way too far when they were playing in NY last year.

Very excited to see them this year. No way was I going to Long Island. Now where do I get a custom Jersey Sirens Jersey?

I have a game worn New York jersey from last year so I’m hyped.

The logo and name are so bad. The name Sirens added with the colors and this looks like it would be the Seattle team with a nod to the Greek Mythological Sirens that would fit right in with the Kraken.
Can’t say I’ll be attending any games with their choices for this team.

Another “NY” team playing in NJ. Lovely

Sirens is such an odd name

Also I really wish they would do what the women’s premier league and other European women’s soccer teams do and just be called the same name and wear the same colors and jerseys as the men.
I could get behind supporting this a lot more if they were called the New Jersey Devils women’s team. I totally get that the league is just starting out and they don’t want to alienate people in the area by doing that even though there will be people who won’t support this team cause they won’t out NJ in the name anyway.
I know it’s never gonna happen though.

So fucking tired of teams from NY playing in NJ and not respecting somehow. I can deal with NY/NJ Sirens or whatever like the Metrostars did, or call them the Tri-state Sirens or something. IDGAF but enough with the disrespecting of the state you actually play your home games in.

All the whining about a “New York name team playing in New Jersey”, meantime I’m just thrilled we’re getting more pro hockey at the Rock, the PWHL was a really solid product last year and hopefully stands to keep improving over time.
I get being upset by it, I still grouse about it sometimes, too: I was annoyed when the Nets stopped wearing “New Jersey” before they moved and the Red Bulls dropping NJ from their name felt pretty insulting. But if a bunch of us are going to buy tickets for/wear gear for/otherwise support those teams plus the (for shit’s sake) Giants and Jets, then there’s not much issue to get all upset about this.

On one hand LETS FUCKING GO /uj on the other, they should be Gotham hc if they’re playing in New Jersey /j

They’re making my old rink Codey Arena home base – Hopefully they stick around for a bit.
