Jack won the last one, glad he’s on the grid.

Gotta be between Niedermayer and Bratt right? Am I forgetting anyone?

  2. JimmyFeetWorld

Probably should be Grabner, but he already got well his deserved superlative.

    Let’s go with #27.

  3. Randy_McKay

Rolston was one of the fastest in our team back in the day.
Otherwise, it could be Niedermayer or Hall..

  4. MaxximusSDS

Probably niedermayer, but woods was pretty fast… Nieds just make it look effortless like he wasn’t even trying

  5. I was going to decide between Nico and Niedermeyer. Niedermeyer is 1A for me.

  6. All_the_dinohorses

Gusev, he was fastest to being obsolete.

  7. radametz

Luke Hughes has shown some ridiculous speed this past year, gotta think if this poll happens in 3-4 years he’d probably have it.

Otherwise I’d say Miles Wood or Niedermayer

  8. SomethingFoul

Niedermeyer actually won the fastest skater event at the All Star Skills Comp in 98. I don’t think there’s even a contest.

  9. Soggy-Firefighter371

Nieder. Even if woods may have potentially been faster straight line, he couldn’t do anything with it. Niedermayer was blazing 200 ft coast to coast, weaving and making it look effortless. Woods would burn in line to take a penalty and/or miss the net.

    Wood/Rolston/Gionta?

    All fast as hell, no?

But there also Jack Hughes’ speed which is insane.

  11. parkhurstcards

Wood because of he would be the fastest. But, if Niedermayer had today’s skates I would say era adjusted he’s the fastest.

  12. mustachiolong

If we’re going pure speed it’s Wood. If we’re going by fastest but actually doing something with that speed? Niedermayer.

  13. PeppiPanini

Niedermayer, and he made it look effortless. 2x fastest skater champion at the 1998 and 2004 all-star super skills. Next category.

  14. fartswhenhappy

Scotty Nieds. Dude could seemingly cover 200 ft in two effortless strides.

We’ve seen some great wheels as Devils fans. Jack, Bratter, and Kovy come to mind. But Nieds was in another league IMO.

  15. Mr7three2

Fastest. Miles Wood. Definitely not the best skater but he was fast

  16. SIIB-ZERO

This question seems to focus on speed not skating ability……In a straight line end to end I’d have to say Miles Wood beats Neidermayer but barely.

  17. Effinehright

John Madden was so fast in his younger days he might be the guy to push 27

  18. Miles Wood. He might crash on the way, but I miss seeing him shot out of a canon

  19. Miles Wood (note: the title says fastest skater, not best)

  20. AlpineSK

Chris Terreri. I used to hear that he’d smoke everyone when his pads were off.

  21. APrettyGoodDude

Niedermayer had impeccable form and is the clear choice. Honorable mention : Tom Chorske, Miles Wood

  22. Kitaenyeah

Hate to say it but Grabner without any doubt, funny if he ends up „winning“ two categories 😀

  23. falaris

I’m surprised anyone is saying “Niedermayer, no question” when Miles Wood exists.

Niedermayer is about as fast as Connor McDavid. Wood had been compared to McDavid as far as speed goes. I distinctly remember him being talked about as *potentially* being slightly faster if considering straight line speed on some broadcast in the past 5-8 years, though Miles Wood doesn’t get invited to ASGs so we’ll never know how he would do in the speed skating competition.

Granted, Wood clearly isn’t the player McDavid or Niedermayer are, and Nieds is absolutely the better/smoother skater by far and could do far more in addition to his speed. Likely the better skater longer into his career too, given that Wood had hip injuries, but I wonder how Woody would stack up if he did the speed skating competition in his prime, pre-injuries, etc.

I won’t be upset that Niedermayer is going to win this or anything though. Just saying.

  24. trevdiddy

Gomez was pretty fast but overall wood I suppose

  25. obtused

Miles Wood is the Luis Mendoza of Devils

  26. ll_cOfFeEbUzZ_lP

Gomez or Woods or Neids. Neids won the speed competition so I think it’s a slam dunk. He was also super graceful and effortless to boot.
