  1. Let me know your thoughts on this mega extension for Leon…Full NMC throughout and very front loaded with SB.

  2. Dumb player and organization . He will get paid a lot of money but he will never win a cup. He should have taken less money say $10 million a year and his team would be more competitive. This is going to be Toronto 2.0!

  3. Yikes! He should have signed for a shorter term. The window to win a cup is within the next 3 to 4 years. Then sign with a Florida team in your twilight years LOL

  4. Great signing and more reason as to why you don’t bend over for players like Broberg and Holloway when the resources are used for players who’ve actually earned their pay and can still produce value at the higher cap hit. Well done to Jackson and Bowman

  5. Oh the guy who dives head first into the boards to get a PP because he can't do it 5 on 5??? Leon Dives -aittl? Ya, lost all respect for him and McDiver in that cup final. Just as bad as Cidney . Make sure to dive at the end of a period to get the pp while they're tired at the end of the period and you get the bonus fresh ice on the pp going into the next….I really loved watching McDiver skate towards a guy's stick then dive – beauty move

  6. It's a big contract, but there's no question he's worth it. Really happy to see him staying. The contract should age well, I think MacKinnon's signing a few years ago was right around the same cap % and it feels great today even though the salary cap went up very little until this past summer. The NMC/signing bonus structure I don't think matters that much. If the Oilers in the future start thinking about moving on from Draisaitl, everything's gone to hell in a handbasket and they're probably headed for a full rebuild anyway.

  7. Thanks for the great update Mike.
I TOTALLY DISAGREE with the naysayers in the comments below.
Draisaitl is a BEAST…..41 G, 52 G, 55 G and 106, 128, 110 points the past 3 seasons. These naysayers are high on wacky tabacky and have no idea what they are saying!!!!
    1. He was injured in playoffs so was hindered.
    2. He shows up in the playoffs unlike the Leafs "core 4". ..he had 10 G last year and 13 G the playoffs before. The guy shows up and is a threat every time he's on the ice.
    3. He's the second best talent on the team. McD will surpass him in salary next year AS HE SHOULD!!!! He's the best player in the world without question.
    4. Draisaitl can't be blamed for terrible Oilers "D".

  8. Gonna b like 30 million against cap on 2 player's. Mcdavid and Drai.Oil better grab fhat Cup next 3-4 year window.Think a Bouchard contract will age badly down the road especially

  9. The problem for the Oilers isn't the huge contract, it's the challenge of threading the needle of players coming in and being shipped out in the next couple of years. Like there's no room for error…Stan Bowman. Good luck with that.

  10. its cool that the stars are getting their due, but man, building around that, I dunno.

  11. I never knew there was a max contract of 20% of the cap. I assumed it was just common sense not to give a guy 16 -18 mil.

  12. He deserves it, but it would have been nice if he took a little less to help the team win a cup.

  13. Hey Mike – you'll be seeing me starting to chime in here 😁 Leon certainly deserves to get that type of money. His regular season starts are better than almost anybody else over the past 3 seasons. A healthy Leon in the final, and the Oilers might have fared a little better. Funny to see other negatory comments against the extension – shows that the lack of hockey knowledge and the love for a team can reside in the same human being, but they are blissfully unaware of each other 😊

  14. What will McDavid want $16-$17 million he isn't taking a pay cut.
Leafs will woo McDavid to Leafs McDavid's hometown Toronto seen McDavid with Leafs pj's on.
    Matthews McDavid same line wow.

  15. They are Toronto paying there top players so much and not leaving much to fill out the rest of the roster with quality players. They won`t win a stanley cup now being so top heavy.

  16. WOWsa!!! This is HUGE news ,indeed–makes perfect sense to lock up Draisaitl long term, and keep the dynamic duo intact. Awesome deal for both sides.

  17. Like to see a change in cap. If you draft a player and consider him your franchise player he would not be part of the cap. You must draft him , if you trade him you could no longer be a a no cap until that player retires. You could use the cap when the team felt it was needed. As long as that player is playing he would be your no cap player. Teams that try to build a good team becomes cap scraped . Penalized for building a good team. Kick it around looking for good criticism.

  18. Not an oiler fan or Toronto , still feel sorry for their predicaments . Always liked the cap , feels needs some changes, times change
