I like Swayman but what does he want from the Bruins??! Pretty sure they don’t have the cap space to make $10mil a year happen. He is a franchise goalie and I’d hate to lose him but he can’t sit here and demand $10mil if it isn’t possible. 🤷🏻
$10, $9.5, and $8.5. Those are the biggest contracts in the league, and those guys have 1 cup and 2 Vezina’s, 2 cups and 1 Vezina, and 2 Vezina’s respectively. Swayman has none of that. Saros just signed for $7.75. Sorokin signed for $8.25. Swayman is more comparable to them than the first group. $8-8.75 should be his range. Heck, Shesterkin is at $5.66 and Ullmark at $5 and they both have a Vezina! (I know, both on the last year of a 4 year deal)
Bruins fan here, Jeremy wants to be one of the highest paid goalies in the NHL which is ridiculous. He still hasnt proved himself as that caliber of player. He's always had Linus splitting the net with him. He was good in the playoffs last year but that was just the very 1st glimpse of what kind of goalie he can be. The Bruins are right to hold out and I'm on their side here.
Bruins fan here the main thing that fucked us was trading ullmark that was the dumbest shit I've ever seen in sports history for trades wise but sways not getting 10 mind you our cap space is only around 7.8 rn I'd happily give him 7.5 but before we signed all the providence guys I I would've been happy to sign him for 8.5 but we don't have that money anymore lol so I feel like we are fucked no matter what but he don't deserve 10 yes he's amazing I love sway so much but he didn't have the season to go down to be tied for the 2nd most paid goalie of all time it's just not real.
In my opinion, it's all about the amount of Deferred money included, his cap hit will remain at one value let's say it's 8mil per season, however instead of a 8 year $64 million dollar contract it'll actually be an 8 year $70+ million dollar deal with about 6 million in deferred money in that case. Meaning the would be paying him several million the day AFTER his contract expires this allows team to get a lower cap hit on their players whilst the players also can get ridiculously more amounts of money, keep in mind that 9th season they would owe Sway that deferred money PLUS they would have to pay more to sign him to another contract but we will be seeing more of this Deferred money thing.
As a bruins fan, I love sway. He’s pretty much the sole reason we beat the leafs last year, and he’s been a stud for his whole time playing.
At the same time, the bruins only have $8.6 million in cap space, so asking for $10 million is literally impossible to do without getting rid of some other players.
I think the best way to handle this would be to get $8 million for a 2 or 3 year deal, then get your bag afterwards.

I don't know if any goalie is worth $10 million just because of what a slump can mean for the present or even future.
I think he comes in a little over 9 and the leaked 10 is just to soften the blow and make it look like a deal. Lol
