Scott Stevens won the best defenseman vote, it was appropriately a very close race until a few hours ago.
Also new grid! The old grid was becoming a
little cluttered and the text edits I made were kinda ugly. Plus “Best Coach” was supposed to be today but it’s kinda the perfect way to end it imo.

Thank god Stevens won. It does bug me a little bit that in modern day Niedermayer is considered above Stevens. I would almost consider Niedermayer for most overrated…but because I would want a player to actually be well regarded to be considered overrated. He’s great and one of the best of all time, just had a lot of unrealized potential for most of his career as a devil and then bailed to Anaheim and feels like he left the organization behind completely. Will always love Niedermayer, but I think anyone who thinks he’s above Stevens is batshit crazy.
Anyway, for best handles I think Jack Hughes is as good as any candidate the devils could have. Bratt is also great but his strength in carrying the puck is from how incredible his skating is. For players from previous rosters I will say Gomez was like an automatic zone entry if he was carrying the puck through the neutral zone, he was incredible at it. But pure puck handling skills, Jack Hughes would be my choice.
