Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau was killed Thursday night when he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in his home state of New Jersey. He was 31. Gaudreau’s younger brother, Matthew, 29, was the other victim in the crash, police confirmed. They were in the area for their sister Katie’s wedding scheduled for Friday in Philadelphia.

Just breaks my heart. Fly all over the country and Canada playing the game you love how many thousands of miles driven to hockey games and tournaments and it ends up being a drunk driver hitting him and his brother in their hometown. Its insane and completely avoidable i am so sick of drunk drivers. If you cause someone’s death intoxicated behind the wheel you should go away for life. A mother in Ohio last month killed her 7 year old daughter drinking and driving. I feel so bad for that family right now. ❤and prayers. Please don’t drink and drive. If you have Facebook post it. If your friends are drinking take their keys. We have to do our part.

This is so very sad.. I shed a few tears upon hearing the news. A senseless tragedy and the loss this family has to suffer with is beyond my comprehension . Parents having to put to rest two of their children and a sister dealing with what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life turned into the worst day of her life. Wives losing husband and children losing their fathers. Utterly heartbreaking Rest in peace boys.

I’m an Oilers fan. I’ve always hated the Flames but never hated the individual players. Gaudreau was such an awesome player, but based on some of the videos I’ve been watching, seems like he was a better person. This is terrible.

Rest easy guys. Lost my cousin a few years ago in a drunk driving incident. The shock and numbing buzzing feeling in your body is indescribable. Like you physically can’t put words together. Wouldn’t wish that feeling on my worst enemy. Always proud to say they came from south Jersey. RIP
