My guess is Habs released him to give him an opportunity to go elsewhere, but offered him an AHL contract if nobody calls.

Norlinder was liked by MSL iirc and didn’t look awful in the NHL. +2 and 1 assist in 6 games. His AHL numbers aren’t great though. I dunno what the plan is. He seems to thrive more in the NHL but isn’t putting up the numbers in the A to force it. Plus with our logjam it seems really unlikely. So who knows?

He’s still young and had promise.

Qualifying offer would have been over 1 mil. By releasing and re-signing to league min they save nearly 300k.

There is one position thats actually kinda missing within the org right now.

Theres no 7th dman/ahl callup guy in the system. The kovacevic or wideman “its ok if they sit for 5 games” guys.

Before they traded away harris they only had 12 dman signed in the org to nhl deals which is already a bit light.

Plus I would rather a norlinder/ a waiver pickup/ or a different signing sit in the pressbox than struble.

Do you guys have the AHL def depth chart ?

I reccon it is light and signing Norlinder to an AHL contract could help the team.
