Redwood/Oregon coast has interesting WW2 history. Humboldt region was a no attack by Japan zone due to Humboldt was named after a German scientist who lived around 1760-1800. Name on alot things and places as he laid the groundwork for evolution, plate tectonics, astronomy, some chem/phyics, ecology, etc. Germany told Japan don't you dare do anything to that area. Also said to the locals and military do not paint the HSU Founders Hall building and tower that is CA mission white easily seen for miles.
