I'm not an EDM fan…Buffalo fan. I may be completely off-base here, but do the Oilers not have enough offensivley-minded forwards already, with Bouchard and Nurse? The argument could potentially be made that he will bolster a solid 3 pairs of offensivley gifted defensemen…but at what cost? I feel like the only solidly gifted defenseman who plays a good defensive game is Ekholm, but he's aging…seems like they need to make a trade for a stay at home defensemen. A guy like Nick Seeler or maybe Logan Stanley

Do a little reading on Kane. There are far more objectionable things in his past than the absolute lunatic ex-wife. Do you have any idea how difficult it is for a man to win sole custody of his children in California? Read her social media.
Kane has been good for the Oilers when healthy. Kane has been an incredibly solid citizen on the Oilers. Active in the community. No scandals here.
A healthy Kane likely would have lead to a better result in the playoffs. Plus the bonus of Holloway not having the breakout playoffs that netted him the offer sheet.
Low risk, possibly high reward. The Oilers have no problems selling tickets so all the backlash is just Twitter drama.
I though that Jake Virtanen was cleared by a court of his peers of doing nothing wrong. Legorock has questionable standards and ethics himself.
