I think you are going to see a lot of these 7 or 8 year deals because GM's want to lock in current prices for future cap increases where contracts are going to start being really insane.
I am in "Fabor" of that contract.
…. I'll see myself out.
How is Brock Faber making more than Norris trophy winner Quinn Hughes after just ONE season? I sense another lockout soon…
i think maybe faber is a bit too much… but they dont pay me to make the decisions in minnesota! hope it works out for them
One good season gets you $8.5mil/season for Faber. I guess GMs are afraid that if they follow it up with another great season, then the asking price might reach $10+million…
In a few years that contract will be an absolute bargain.
There’s only been a few wild players worth remembering
While i do think Fabers contract works out favorably for the Wild, I think BillyG pulled off this deal with his typical "I didnt negotiate heres our top dollar offer". Faber is a hometown guy who most likely would have settled for any contract for his home team, that being said he deserves to get paid. I say that in a positive light as he is a class act man and player who wants to make an impact both as a player and role model citizen. I think I can speak for all of Minnesota and say we are very glad to have this "very likely" future team captain locked down for the next 9 seasons. He was very quick to become a team favorite, and a steal of a trade for free agent Kevin Fiala.
I like the Faber deal for Minnesota.
Sanderson, now Faber. That's the going rate for young D coming off ELCs with 1st pairing upside (8-8.5×8). Seider and Luke Hughes probably clock-in around there too (eventually).
Do you think the owners will ever try and push for a similar contract structure like the the NBA where the seven and eight year max contracts will be replaced by four and five year max contracts? If that’s something the owners truly want, then I think the players are going to want more than a 50/50 slice of that HRR pie.
No PWHL magnet?
How did Wild manage to do it again? If Faber doesn't perform according to cap hit, it becomes another anchor contract. Brodin played 53% goals% hockey with Faber and 73% with Bogosian. Shot% <6, negative plusminus . It's safe to say this contract has gigantic risks and they are banking on something that really isn't visible yet.
A nagging injury called being 38 years old. Father Time puts the boot in everyone’s backside eventually but even in his late-30’s he’s still a player you focus on.
Guerin crapped the bed on that one.
I can't say I understand the rush to get this contract done while there is still a year on his ELC. Why not wait until at least game 40 next year to make sure what you see is what you get? Sure, Faber looks like a stud but Minnesota is just coming out of salary cap hell 10 years after dishing out two of the most short-sighted overpays in NHL history. Is retaining the local boy talent that important? What's next? Will they try to sign Brock Boeser for $10M next summer because he is from Burnsville?
Big difference between Luke and Brock is that Brock is actually good at defense lol (I love Luke and think he will be a stud but I don't think his next contract will be that big, maybe the one after it. I vote bridge for him.
The intro sounded like Nancy Pelosi meets Kamala Harris.
I know you are super busy but I hope you can do some reporting on PWHL. They play a very entertaining brand of hockey.
The Wild are about to build around Faber and Kaprizov. Or they should be. Its the other contracts MN is signin that seem nuts, not this one.
