It may be still about a month before even preseason begins, but I think it’s worth doing a season preview for the Calgary flames.
I think the meme template I’m using fits with the theme/question I ponder about this upcoming season: “Will the Calgary Flames truly change?”
We [the Calgary flames franchise] have been stuck in a hamster wheel of mediocrity for what seems like decades. And we also had to endure bad managers and coaches along the way that kept us in mediocrity.
The first year of Craig Conroy management showed signs of a potential change in direction, but let’s see if he will take the year by year steps to truly change the Flames for the better (preferably by the time the new arena is open ~2027)
Comment down below your thoughts on the Flames this upcoming season. Anything or anyone in particular you’re looking forward to the most this upcoming season?

1) In your google doc. You’ve mixed up the first name. Scotty Bowman was the head coach for Detroit. You’re thinking of the name Stan Bowman. The SON of Scotty Bowman. Also, the scandal is the NHL leagues fault for not changing during the times and really addressing the awful things people do to take advantage of situations for their own benefit and control. When things like that occur, everyone who is in the know is at fault, even the players within. NHL should have placed a firm stand of the limitations that govern the standards of professionalism. If those standards are abandoned and ignored, the consequences should be dealt severely. But it is not, and it has frequent history from players and to management that anything bad happens, just a few years away, can be back with open arms like a clean slate.
2) Now with Calgary Flames, Conroy wants to be competitive likely at 2027 or 2028. Wants a turn around similar to the Dallas Stars. Want to have smart IQ veterans, a forward star, and a defender star, and an established goalie star. Calgary has no real star forwards, but with the hardworking focus, the players have established that doing the work is essential to establish permanent positioning. Those who do not wish to do the work will be moved for the betterment of the team. Calgary established Wolf as the goalie star and Zayne Parekh and Hunter Brzestewicz that offense defensemen are available for upgrades in the next 2 or so seasons. If Calgary can manage a strong centre position player with scoring and IQ upside, the pieces fall into place for a 2027 or 2028 competitive team after a 3-4 year rebuild/retool.
