  1. Him getting a long-term deal was surprising considering that we thought a bridge-deal was the plan. But if he bounces back, this could be a steal of a contract during his prime. But if not, you’ll have 6+ million average centers on the books when it’s time to pay Wright and potentially Catton in a few years.

  2. If they give ryan j what he should get and it works for Flyers no harm done. Sounds like ryan won't play again?

  3. Matty B! This is where I expected this contract to come in. Hard for a year or two, but pretty nice in the later years. (assuming he gets back to where we expect him to be)

  4. 0:50 This also shows the character of a young player. If it's all about "me me me", and they sign an offer sheet while on a team they know has zero chance of matching, well, do you really want a player like that on your team? I don't. Self-serving.

Glad Edmonton let them both walk. Neither of them is going to blast the gates of success wide open.

  5. Ridiculously happy to see Beniers locked up for 7 years. I was sure we were going to get a bridge deal or an Auston Matthews special, following the trend of young stars signing sequential 4 or 5 year deals so his salary keeps up with the rising cap. (Which is good for the players, but can be hard as they're forever locking in salary negotiations.)

  6. I keep seeing folks praising St. Louis for the moves, but those are some pretty hefty contracts for guys with no much NHL experience. I think Edmonton did just as well with not handcuffing themselves with those contracts.

  7. Insufferable Edmonton fans are getting banned left and right on the Blues YouTube channel.

I think Edmontons fan base takes the crown and surpasses Toronto in being the most annoying Canadian fan base ever.

  8. I’m all for players getting their money but as is neither Broberg or Holloway earned that amount with the Oilers. We easily could have signed Broberg to something similar if he played closer to a full season to see if he is that good or just a flash in the pan. It also cost the Blues 6.5 or so in cap space as well so

  9. Poaching from Edmonton took it one step further from "how you steal players". They did it to a team who can't retaliate until long after Armstrong is likely gone. To be fair to Doug Armstrong's mother, she would have signed those RFAs before she signed Brown and Perry.

  10. Johansen screwed up. He was at Atkinsons wedding, and theres photos of this injured guy lifting the bride etc. Not looking good for him.

  11. Another black eye for the NHL. After the Connor Bedard thing, one would think that Armstrong would have had the good sense to choose his words more wisely.

  12. Seattle is gambling that Beniers bounces back and develops into a 1C, or that the cap increases quite a bit, and a mediocre center is worth 7 million per season. It's a pretty good gamble on their part. And Beniers guarantees himself 50 million dollars, even if he gets hurt repeatedly, or if his rookie season turns out to be by far his best season.

  13. There are rumors on Johanssen where he got married recently and was picking his wife up in a chair and other physical things that he couldn't do supposedly. But I'm looking forward to hearing for sure what happened.

  14. Shannon how would a settlement affect Nashville since they are retaining salary on Johansen if it is in the Flyers favor I have never heard of a settlement with multiple teams involved

  15. I like Beniers but that is an overpay. Which scares me because Wyatt Johnston is coming up and is a FAR BETTER player in all aspects.

  16. Beniers looked terrific in his first games for Seattle, and his rookie season built off that.

He did better as last year went on, but it was still a disappointing drop-off for him. Hopefully he’ll learn from that, make this deal count so people won’t give him grief for it. It’s not like players his age demand contracts like it, not after a handful of years and certainly not after a backsliding one.
