The Caps are projected to miss the playoffs and finish 20th in the league. What do you think?

Me, I think this prediction is bullshit. An aging, but promising roster like this should be ranked eighth in the East like last season.

I haven’t really ever bet on sports, but I’m confident enough to put some money on the Caps making the playoffs. The Caps aren’t one injury away from certainly missing either, which is huge.

  2. Strange to have the Metro projected so low overall when we had so many teams around the playoff bubble last year. Maybe we make the playoffs, maybe we don’t, but 20 seems low given that we have an improved roster from last year.

They had very favorable goal sequencing last season (won a lot of close games, lost a lot of blowouts). If that changes this year they could easily end up with a similar or worse record despite actually playing materially better overall. I think we all expect another year of Carbery + growth from young guys + roster improvements to lead to a net improvement, maybe a big one. But the overall record still has a lot of room for curveballs.

I still believe they will make the playoffs, but 20th isn’t so far back that it should be considered an unreasonable bet. That’s essentially, what, 9th or 10th in the East depending on the balance of the conferences, maybe even 8th? That’s totally within the realm of believable.

Who the hell constructed this lineup like this lmao. Of course they think the caps will miss the playoffs not knowing who half the players actually are.

I don’t think the caps are a shoe in. I think either everything clicks and the team is better than the sum of its parts, or things just don’t work out and crash and burn. We need young guys to take a step, our goalies to be consistent, and PLD needs to be a factor every night. I think the one thing we can count on is the defense being very solid.

Predicted by who? Either way I don’t care.

Probably the same geniuses who picked the Pens to contend last season just because they got Karlsson even though his last year in SJ was an anomaly. And when did Wilson start playing LW?

Think Caps fans need to recalibrate expectations a bit after last season. The Caps were not a good team at all last year. We just weren’t *as* bad as the others around us.

That said, they have gotten better (on paper) and probably have improved to a point where they’re a traditional Wild Card level talent. The big thing is how much the Devils improve by, if any of the Red Wings, Sabres, Senators triumvirate can take the next step, and how teams like Tampa and Boston perform after some decent changes to big performers on their roster.

I don’t think the Caps are 20th, but I can see a world where they’re a better team than last year and still miss the playoffs.

My prediction is that they’ll be the #1 Wild Card spot.

Anybody that puts Tom Wilson at LW is spewing nonsense lmao
