Should the Sabres offer sheet Raymond?

There's a rumor that an offer sheet could be made for the Red Wings' Lucas Raymond. How do you all feel about that? Every body love Raymond?

The Red Wings are in the midst of a rebuild and would be insane to let him go, this has to be bullshit.

No because the wings have cap space to sign him, they are just negotiating just how much will go towards him. The amount we’d have to offer him to to keep a match out of their reach would be cost prohibitive and they would likely match anything we offered.

The reason the offer sheets worked on the oilers is because the didn’t have cap space to offer them anything other than true low ball deals and they needed flexibility for Drai next summer. The redwings WANT Raymond longterm, so an offer sheet would just make their job easier and end up helping them.

I guarantee at least 1 offer has been made already.

Just spitballing but why not offer him something like 4 years for the max of the 1st & 3rd comp tier ( I believe it’s ~6.8) ? It’s probably a bit below market for Raymond but it would allow him to be a ufa at 26 where he could look to cash in. Even if Detroit matches they will then have to deal with a cornerstone piece being a ufa and probably having to pay a premium to retain him down the line. Don’t hate the idea.

    Umm no.

    1. They have the cap to match anything anyone could offer

    2. Even if they didn’t you might as well have offered them Quinn, Peterka, Levi or Byram with an unprotected 1st 2nd and 3rd round pick for Raymond straight up

    3. Karma is a bitch… Edmonton is going to fuck over St Louis in a couple of years. St Louis basically bet that none of their prospects would be worth a damn in the next 2-3 years. Can’t wait to see who gets claimed or what Edmonton gets to not go after a breakout talent.

  6. No. It’s waaaay to costly both in AAV and draft picks to successfully offer sheet someone like that.

You gotta do it…you offer Raymond forcing Detroit to pay him…the reason why teams do this ( have multiple players needing big contracts) is because they assume nobody will actually do an offer sheet..same thing with the leafs a few years back…if someone would have offer sheeted they were screwed…but t of course nobody did…the wi gs are a direct competitor…they have Raymond and seider hanging in the balance…time is now to strike

Terry isn’t going to screw his friends with offer sheets, therefore Kevyn isn’t going to screw Terry’s friends with offer sheets.

I’d rather try to trade one of our LHD for Seider, does NHL do sign and trades like NBA?

Raymond would’ve been the Sabres 2nd or 3rd best forward last season. Paying a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd to sign Raymond to a 5x$9.161M contract is a no brainer move in a vacuum, the only thing complicating it is the Sabres’ future cap structure (you’ll have to bridge at least one of Quinn, Peterka, and Levi, Lafferty and/or Clifton would have to be dumped, and Samuelsson or Byram could become cap casualties). If you think making the playoffs this coming season is of the upmost importance, then you should do try and sign him for even if Detroit matches you’d be forcing one of your rivals to walk their star player right to UFA status (you could also turn around and offer Seider the exact same deal, which would put Detroit over the cap).

Hard pass for me. Awesome player but he is the future of the red wings, even more than Larkin imho. Because of that he would be too expensive to pull out of Detroit and is a big enough name that a counter measure would be almost guaranteed, even if unsuccessful. It’s an Aho 2.0 but instead of coming back for a Kotkaniemi type player it would be more painful for Buffalo.
