He's been a starter for 3 years in Vancouver. 2 of those years the team was rebuilding on the fly with suspect D and he still got a 912 save%. This year he had 918% which is top 5 team in the league numbers on a team that still needs more improvement. You look at Andersen signing with the Leafs years ago and compare to Markstrom; I'll take Markstrom in 2021 for nearly the same price for sure. 6th year will be a buyout most likely though.
I can’t believe the Canucks let him walk. This is insane, markstrom was our heart and soul guy for at least the last two seasons. I don’t even know what to say at this point.
Flames got a good one. Guy was at times the only reason we got points. Canucks couldn't have given him that contract with the way Demko played against Vegas anyways. It pays him til he is 36 which at that point you have a backup getting $6million a year.
Brad Treliving is a joke. He won't accept either Sean or Johnny have to go. They can't play big or show up when others play big. Have Rittich already who is 2yrs younger & can play the puck 10X better. Calgary's breakout crumbles when the goalie can't play it. Another first & out or we won't make it
Lol wasn't Talbot the answer? Wasn't Rittich "the guy"? Markstrom is a great goalie but there are other major issues in Calgary. Gaudreau and to a lesser extent Monahan, being the main ones. So they finally admitted that goaltending was weak. That's one down.
As a flames fan.. Hopefully he plays well for us. We usually have bad luck with goalies.. Jonas Hiller, Mike Smith, Brian Elliot, goalies who thought would be good; sucked. The list goes on and on… Cam Talbot was good but decided to sign elsewhere. But hopefully markstrom doesn't fall under the latter.
I know this is kind of old but Marky has already got 2 points for the Flames, almost by himself. Shutting down the Canucks offense was kind of impressive to see.

Markstrom is good but Calgary might get worse as a team bc the blue line is so thin rn

$6 million is fine but 6 years is a horrible term for Calgary. And you basically traded Brodie for Tanev.
