As opposed to yesterdays post with Hextall’s worst moves, I thought I’d start a discussion on Rutherford’s best trades as GM. Such a fun way to reminisce the pieces of the championship teams coming together.

My personal favourite trade will always be the Sutter for Bonino trade just because of how vividly I remember it and where I was when it was breaking.

Let me know your favourite trades by GMJR.

I’m not sure any GM in history has ever had as perfect a 6 month run as JR did from July 2015 to January 2016

Scuderi for Daley might be the best trade of all time lol, unreal value add

JR was the man. Yeah he will leave your system in shambles when he’s done. But at least you know he’s putting 110% effort into going for cup runs.

What GMJR did to set up these cup teams was marvelous. He didn’t really miss over the span of two years and laid the foundation for a formidable team. It’s unfortunate he made several missteps after the cup run. With that said, we don’t win those back-to-back cups without these moves.

The redemption arcs for Phil the Thrill and Justin Schultz, after being picked apart by local media in TO and EDM respectively, was a joy to behold. Shoutout to Matt Cullen as well, what a great fucking signing he was.

Every time I read “the HBK line”, I start to smile. What an absolutely insane and entertaining third line that was.

I despise the trade that took Hornqvist from Pittsburgh. Hags wasn’t much better.

But those moves aside, while I didn’t like all his moves, *we won two Stanley Cups based on his work.*

He’s got asterisks on his record. But still. I can’t be down on the man as a GM overall. Just a few of the later gambles were stinkers.
