  1. so if Kane stays, and Broberg/Holloway get those rumoured deals, the oilers (by my math) are like 2-3 million over the cap. (thanks to Campbell and Neal buyouts haha) wonder what they’ll do to get under that limit….

  2. My guess is Oil management would prefer Kane waive his no trade to shed salary for Draisatl… so where are they going to find the cap room for him without moving pieces? This should be interesting! Dominoes need to fall to make this work. Whether it’s 13.5 or 14.5

  3. If Kane doesn't go on LTIR, we can't sign Brogby or Hollywood without moving someone out. Ceci seems to be the concensus amongst the fan base, but the old saying "if you don't talk about a defenseman he must be doing something right" rings true for Ceci. Hate to see anyone go but I'd be leaning to Kulak… good skater, but makes poor defensive decisions.

  4. It's been remarkable how the Oilers have gone from, going into the 2014 NHL Entry Draft during which Leon Draisaitl would be picked by that team, a laughingstock to one of the best teams in the league. As much as I admire the 10 post-1967 Cups the Habs have won:
    – they've won more Cups than during the same time span any of the remaining Canadian teams have, prompting me to hope that another Canadian team will win some Cups
    – the Oilers:
    — after having, from the 2014–15 season to 2020–21 one, have won playoff series in each of the past three seasons, with last season's Cup-or-bust mentality apparently having resulted in negotiations on Drai's next contract having gone so well that it's likely to be a matter of weeks, if not days, before he signs a long-term extension
    — had they lost their 2024 conference semi-final to the Canucks, which they had come close to doing after having gone down 3–2 in that series, it's quite possible that this offseason might've been about how soon they would want to trade Drai
    – the Canucks last season qualified for playoff action for just the third season since the Oilers had drafted Drai, so who knows how far the Canucks will go this coming postseason if they qualify
    – between the Ontario NHL teams the most recent playoff series win came from the Leafs in April 2023 although:
    — those Leafs lost the 7th and final game of their 2024 opening-round series by just one goal, just under 2 minutes into overtime, and of those games that took place in that series, the final three were each decided by one goal, indicating how tightly fought on the score sheet that playoff series would end up being against the Bruins
    — the Sens last season finished their 7th straight without a playoff appearance, with many fans, among them the main co-hosts of the Locked On Sens podcast (part of the Locked on Sports series of podcasts), Ross Levitan and Brandon Piller, I'm sure hoping that this coming season will result in a bare minimum a playoff appearance (from what I can tell from having watched so many episodes of that podcast series)
    – the Jets' having only ever won playoff series to end their respective 2017–18 and 2020–21 ones, with appearances in conference and division finals, and given how putrid their defense has been over the past nine playoff games, no sign that I've seen that they're about to turn things around come playoff time anytime soon

  5. He going to sacrifice 1M to ride the coattails some more…oilers need to spend some cash between the pipes or they will probably have a repeat season but lose in the 2nd round this time around…..and 8 years in Edmonton sounds like sentence.
