I def think they should do one of those things. For sure.

  2. GoblinStats

I’d rather roll the dice and keep the guy but if there’s an offer that makes the team better…

  3. FallenTransponder

Resign if your willing to give me consistent minutes and prove himself. Trade if you won’t give him a fair shot. He deserves a fair shot if he’s healthy

  4. I’ve been told several moons ago that he was better than Caufield. What happened?

  5. PuckPulse

Wonder if a full time role in the top 6 pays off. There’s a lot of risk putting him there but he could be a consistent 20g guy when it’s all said and done.

It’s highly unlikely there’s a trade the Leafs could win by including Robertson that isn’t part of a bigger package of moving parts. Scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in this league and he’s showed a high aptitude for it in his small amount of playing time and short leash under Keefe.

I really think he jumped the gun with his trade request. The left wing spots are wide open with Bertuzzi gone and the only competition similarly aged and experienced players in Knies, McMann, and Dewar. Plus with Keefe finally gone he has a chance to endear himself to Berube, who really isn’t that much of a caveman despite preconceived notions.

He and the team would be better off coming to an agreement. And he should really be more wary of leaving the organization that drafted him. Mikheyev (not drafted but we did sign him to an ELC and we were his first NHL team) and DeBrusk both had similar trade demands and both their organizations told them to suck it up. Both men went on to sign lucrative deals. Zadina demanded a trade from Detroit, went to San Jose, had a poor season, and he’s now a free agent with no home for this upcoming season. There’s a very good chance that could be Robertson if he gets his way (assuming he still feels how he did a month ago). Or he could have a good season beside one of three highly skilled centres and be a richer man afterwards.

If you can’t get decent value for him, why trade him?

  8. burningxmaslogs

Trade.. they’re wasting his career. They’re not serious about his development. Idiots

  9. Actual_Cobbler_6334

He still requested a trade knowing Keefe is gone and that there’s an opening in the top 6. Trade him.

  10. Hrenklin

I think he’s on the move this year. He’s an asset who’s said he’s not signing. Name 1 employer that would rehire someone who said they didn’t want to be there. He’s a perfect peice help bring back a much more needed 3C.

  11. Mashdrop

People always say we need depth scoring in the playoffs, 22 y/o RFA with a great shot fits the bill. Re-sign him.

  12. Due_Paper7562

I’d be okay with a few draft picks for him

  13. hangukfriedchicken

They need him. Despite being a defensive liability in his own zone, He’s still low cost winger that can play PP2. He has no leverage except to sit out the season and he’s sat out enough seasons! Anyways, they will get nothing for him and they need his 20 goals.

  14. musebrews

Probably gets injured trying to sign the contract

  15. Cereal_Killer_666_

Any chance leafs get a good goalie? Woll and Sam are trash

  16. fragile9

Should just trade him if he doesn’t want to re-sign. If they can get someone similar in age/production who has a bigger body then pull the trigger asap.

  17. GLFR_59

He won’t be more than a 3W. He is already injury prone and hasn’t shown he can perform in the NHL. Unless you can get him on a 2-way he isn’t worth the spend.

  18. Mustard-Horse71

He should just shut his mouth and focus on playing better. If he won’t resign then sit him. He hasn’t earned the right to make demands.

  19. BloodOk6235

He’s not worth much in a trade so you either play him under a coach who isn’t Keefe and see if he’s actually an NHLer or not.

  20. types_stuff

Why would you re-sign a guy who hasn’t been a factor to ANY degree? Hes not irreplaceable, he’s not a game changer, and he’s looking for a role that he’s not suited for (here) – move him for assets and move on.

The overvaluing of average players is embarrassing. Do we remember Andreas Johnson? Kasperi Kappanen? There are a TON of players who the leafs let go that actually had an impact, we simply didn’t give them the stage.

Robertson has had 2+ years of opportunities and he’s shown his ceiling is what it is.

  21. Remote-Dog-2531

I think *right now* with the way the roster is constructed, I’m thinking we will be needing him to play some decent, consistent minutes this year.
He may even get shots in the top 6.

If we make any trades that seem to shore up our *on paper* loss of offense then he would then become a bit more redundant and I would then be happy getting MAYBE (fingers crossed) a second+ for him, a third+ is more likely tho

Not sure though it’s a tough decision

  22. Resign, let Tavares and Marner walk, sign McJesus. Easy money

  23. Tight_Data6921

Trade because he deserves a chance elsewhere. He will excel in the West but the bigger East is not good for him.
