Starting to see media support for Marek

Obviously this doesn’t guarantee anything, but I imagine they wouldn’t be publicly supporting him if there were rumors of misconduct

  1. I’m just dying to know why he was let go (or didn’t have his contract renewed) as it’s just confusing me

  2. The longer no one says why this happened the worse the speculation will get

I’ve seen a paywalled post that said Marek didn’t do anything malicious or terrible, but more he said something that angered a stakeholder. Hopefully , that is true and I could see that Marek while having a long discussion accidentally said something too critical in the moment.

I saw a rumour that he leaked a trade on draft night to another team. Any legs to that rumour?

Very bizarre situation. The suddenness and public silence from both Rogers and Marek makes it seem like a conduct-related investigation or dismissal. But the public support from so many colleagues in the media (who likely have some idea of what is going on behind the scenes) definitely indicates that the conduct is not at all the usual things we see (ie. not something like harassment or inappropriate behaviour).

Hope he’s doing well and starts a new Jeff Marek show somewhere else, but it won’t be the same without him and Friedman together. I was curious when he was dropped from HNIC last year, maybe there were still som hard feelings from that.

I wish we can bully Sportsnet into re-hiring Marek. I freaking love that guy.
Listening to him and Eliotte on 32 thoughts is always the highlight of my week.
I don’t know what I’m going to do without them…

    Must have said “you people”

I just want 32 Thoughts to keep going 😭

    Must be restarting

Live Audio Wrestling. The LAW returns with Marek

I saw some tweets last night that I can’t find again that were saying he got fired for pissing off stakeholders and not carrying water for Bowman/ Q and maybe said some things. Definitely just twitter bullshit since this is like one of 6 different rumours in this thread 😂. But im choosing to believe it cause I always thought Marek was a g.

He deserves better than shitty SN either way, and hope he goes somewhere good. I wonder if SDPN has money for him?

frankly, the fact that marek and sportsnet haven’t put an end to the speculation makes me think it’s likely that something did happen.

it doesn’t mean he committed a crime or did anything amoral, but there was clearly something that pissed off the wrong person at the wrong time.

it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, but it seems unlikely that this was just a contract issue.

I need to know that Jeff is ok. He and wysh got me through running deliveries everyday as a young 20 something. He needs to come back and tell me about the Sarnia Sting’s power play in ’94, or Daniel Sprong.

Probably said something political that some executive didn’t like

I love 32 thoughts. The only pod I listen to religiously. And I really can’t believe there’s been nothing reported, speculation or otherwise. I assume because of the respect he has of his fellow reporters, insiders, players and managers. And also, had he been dismissed for behavior (alcohol, assault, SA) enough people find that repulsive enough to speculate on it, regardless of his polished image.
Also, because of his friendship w Friedman, who knows everything about everyone, yet has dignity and integrity, and hasn’t said boo about it. Makes me believe it’s an issue w his employer, who Friedman is also employed by, as most of the Canadian hockey press is.
Here’s my speculation. This has got to be a Rogers thing. And subsequently, a Bell thing. No way Rogers SportsNet is going to let one of its top talented journalists, walk to the competition at Bell TSN by simply not renewing his contract.
Or, Rogers and Bell are co owners of MLSE (the Maple Leafs) so if he “did” or “said” something that could be “interpreted” as damaging to the brand of the Maple Leafs (speculation on a prospect, criticism of the draft, or off season moves by management).
When Bob Mackenzie “retired” from being an analyst, I felt the same thing. He, nor any journalist, can actually give an honest “take” on any TML player or organization.
Sure, the Leafs or players receive criticism for their ineptitude, but they’ll never depreciate an asset on camera.

He was going around Vegas telling people the Sphere isn’t actually a sphere because the bottom is flat.

Love Jeff Marek and his work on 31 thoughts – Hope everything works out for him!

I just hope this all means he took a better paying job somewhere that he most definitely deserved. I’d hate for this to be anything negative against a guy who genuinely seems like he loves the sport and the people he works with

Maybe he told Ed Rogers the truth that his father was a genius, and he’s just an a-hole riding dad’s coat tails and was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a home run.
