Winnipeg for McGroarty maybe, but he wants NHL ice time now, unless he is willing to play 4th line I’m not sure he’s an option.
And I imagine if we want picks or dudes on ELCs coming back, that almost guarantees we have to retain some salary.

It’s not the worst thing if the worst case is we have him on the ice. Ofc that’s not guaranteed

I would be fine with this. I want a year of stability with the new front office and coach to find out exactly what we have. Add pieces next year. Build depth and see what happens in a couple years.

Portzline said in his podcast the other day that we are in on McGroarty and there have been conversations.
Same podcast he mentioned multiple times how much Winnipeg would love to have Laine back. The mailbag talked about it too – said he was up in Winnipeg that week and they very much want him back.
I do not think this would be far fetched. I gotta wonder if he’s more flexible about some time in the AHL if he’s there playing with Brindley too.

If they’re not taking on roster players or retaining salary, they don’t have twenty teams to deal with. According to Puckpedia, the only teams that could fit him under their cap are:
Sabres
Bruins
Habs
Utah
Sharks
Canes
Wings
Flames
(Sabres, Habs, Utah, Canes, Sharks all have good prospects.)

Draft picks are the closest thing to cash. They can always be moved, work as sweeteners and don’t require the other team to have cap space.

At this point, what is possible?
