> “If I’m asking the players, how are you going to do better to handle pressure and be connected going into next year, then I have to be the same way,”
Thought this was a great catch-up with Tocchet. The parts about Petey and Demko were really interesting.

Really solid article from Drance here.
> I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing what DeBrusk-Miller-Boeser could do as a line too. A north-south guy that’s fast as hell and can stretch the zone, that’s exactly the type of guy that you want Miller to have too. So is that Heinen or Sherwood or Nils Höglander if he improves his game?
> That said, I have to get Pettersson a winger of DeBrusk’s calibre. Which doesn’t mean that DeBrusk playing Miller isn’t also in your mind.
Its kind of funny how Drance asked Tochett about if DeBrusk was brought in to play with EP40 and it’s still not clear if he is ear marked for EP40 or JT.
I’ve really warmed up on playing Joshua/Garland with either EP40/JT. Essentially have your top-6 wingers be DeBrusk + Boeser & Joshua + Garland. And then you’ve still got the depth to ice a solid bottom-6.
Also, from Rutherfords interview he was talking about how Patrick Allvin kept coming to him talking about trying to *trade* for DeBrusk, so JDB is obviously a player they’ve been interested in well before free agency.

Tocc believes Sprong can improve his defensive game and be a staples guy in Van for the foreseeable future.

Haven’t had more faith in a coach since AV
Was a bit skeptical about Vinny and then Sprong, who essentially took away our ability to accrue space unless Poolman is traded out without us taking a contract back but seeing the process and justification aside from “he was good 3 years ago” or he’s “tall and strong” is really encouraging.
With that said, even if everyone plays up to their potential, we still need another defenseman. We are two injuries away from Friedman or Juulsen in the Top 4 with Soucy & Forbort being guys who miss decent amounts of time. I also don’t think the goal in the next couple years should be for Myers to be in the Top 4 either, he’s getting up there and certainly isn’t a Chris Tanev defensively

I can hear the cackling pauses as I read this.

Favorite part is when he talks about Petey:
“He’s a great kid to work with and he’s a very confident kid, but there’s some knowledge that I have for him, things that he has to understand he has to do if he wants to be a top player. I think he realizes that after last year …
Saying that, he does a lot of great things for us. He took a bullet, because sometimes he played with a rotating cast of wingers, that was just the way our team was going. It was nobody’s fault, and for the most part, he kept his mouth shut in the sense that he just played. I give him a lot of respect for that.”
It’s great to see him acknowledge that Petey was playing with guys who simply weren’t good enough. And as fans, we didn’t really hear Petey complain about it.
If Petey’s available in any fantasy pool, I’d bet big on him this season.

This was a really nice read, good, pressing questions from Drance and very in depth answers from Tocc. Would love to see these more often
