SKA coach Roman Rotenberg says that he just had a recent Zoom meeting with Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton and the Habs brass to discuss Ivan Demidov. They had a “very positive conversation about how we would develop Ivan in SKA. There was no talk even about him leaving for Canada”

  3. That’s great, I wasn’t sure if NHL teams could have good relationships like that with the KHL. The way Briere was talking about Michkov, it’s like he had no idea what was going on over there during the year. Maybe it’s the Bobrov effect.

Honestly, playing a year in the KHL might be the best for him right now. MHL is too easy and the jump from MHL to NHL is way too big. And I’m sure Demidov prefers to play in the KHL than the AHL. So, great news!

Great to know SKA have a plan to develop him.

Is Galchenyuk still with the team ?

  5. Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but who is Vanya? Otherwise this seems like great news. If the Demidov situation can help grow back the relations between the KHL and NHL it would be pretty good. Just hoping for no more Fedotov situations.

I’m excited that we can follow so much easier. Hopefully he can get the minutes needed to produce.

Amazing. Arguably the best route for him rn is to cook in the KHL this year.

Getting him over this season would be cool and fun, but I’d rather it this way for his long-term development.

Excellent news. Having him in town right away would be fun, but a year of learning a different set of skills in the K before coming over might come in handy in the future.

Hearing the friendly tone certainly points to SKA wanting to get the most of out ID. I get that they don’t typically invest much in players they know are leaving, but he’s 2nd best russian forward prospect, surely he can help them improve this season.

Hopefully this puts to bed the unfounded rumours that he wouldn’t even make the KHL team and that they’d bury him in the MHL again.

Looks like the kid’s on track. I’m sure both parties talked about Ivan getting playing time and development before coming to Canada.

He’s going to play in the KHL this year.

Im not against him staying over. It takes a lot of the pressure to perform off the team.

Unless Hughes can pull a trade for a top 6, we’re looking at another long year.

Bluffing still even after the draft. These guys are pros.

  13. FakeCrash

Fine by me, let’s get another top 10 pick (and hopefully the CGY/FLA pick is decent too!)

Probably for the best. At least this will stop the rumors of coming here.

  15. Yea, no. A solid SKA lineup just means Demidov will play the conventional 8 mins a game rookie minutes, if not less.

  16. ukrainianhab

Ice time. Does he crack 15 mins plus? Til then just a bunch of words.
