This situation was mishandled for years now.
$6 mil for a year.
Isn’t that in Guentzel and Aho Territory?
I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Edit: Not sure why I’m getting downvoted..
but thanks for the people actually replying; some good information and things to consider.
That’s about how expensive he will be at the Arb hearing. He’s only coming off a 3M deal and an average season last year.
Gotta figure he’s kicking tires on anything past a year solely because we could flip him in an instant with some term on a deal.
I mean, what other options do we have at this point?
I hope that’s not the case.
$6M for Necas is a serious overpayment.
Actually, Cory Lav reported this, not Gregor. He just repeated something Cory said on Sportnet. Give the local reporter the credit he deserves, please
That seems fair for a top 6 scoring forward who’ll probably be in PP1. See if the relationship and usage can be repaired this year and still is an RFA next summer
I really want necas to step it the fuck up. Been saying this all offseason, but it seems like our team was willing to bend for players more than ever this past season. If we give necas and some of our other top 6 forwards some offensive freedom, you’ll see them get some swagger back and likely put up some career numbers. The ball is in their court now, given that our younger guys are finally getting bigger roles. They can easily turn a year that was supposed to be a step back into a step forward
Would Necas still be an RFA after next season if he signs a one-year deal? My understanding of the rules indicates yes but I wanted to make sure I’m not mistaken about “qualifying years”
I would think based on his prior year(s) performances $6M is a more than fair offer. People say the Canes don’t play his style but quite frankly Necas hasn’t kept up his side either. A lot of times he cruises or just doesn’t put in the effort. This gives him one more year to show he is a top tier forward or else he will rightfully be gone either as a trade this season or after the season is over.
There’s 13.8 million left to sign Jarvis and Necas. At this rate Necas may just choose to go to arbitration to take it out of Carolina’s hand.
