They can't get raises until Suzuki gets his. lol
Always bring in new. Must always challenge the status quo.
Sid to the Habs next year. Mark my words!!!!
Dach Slafkovsky Demidov, Suzuki Caulfield Mcgroty ,Beck Roy Hage, Evens Tuch Xhekaj
I'd like to see Andrei Markov as the powerplay coach.
N
how many players do you think mtl can sign those 8 year contracts? already 3 now !!!!!
are you related to the other gosse guy on Leafs Digest?
Guy Carbonneau for the power play.
Just for the sake of it and since we actually have a GM and a head coach that are comfortable thinking outside the box, why not make a splash and ask AK27 if he’d be interested in coaching our future PP units? Slaf and Ivan would be thrilled!!
Happy Canada Day boys. We are building a core 4 that is much cheaper but still fair compared to certain other teams. However, it will likely look like a core 6-8 when all said and done.
Great show
Y Guy Boucher
No! Too much work for MSL. Bring someone in to run the PP.
N
Bring in Carbo for PP
Kovalev for PP coach
Bring Markov or Kovalev maybe?
PK subban as power play coach
George Laraque for PP coach 🎉😅🎉
I would love to see markov brought in to coach the power play , he ran a top 10 power play in Montreal for years .
Yeah bring in someone else who has the nack or a natural PP wizard.
Hey guy great show
Sad I missed the live chat. But I really feel like we should have done better than a 4th-rounder for Kovasevic. And Markov for PP coach!!!!
I've got no problem with the Slaf deal (or Suzuki's or Caufield's). Excellent value. But we are pretty much tied to them now…and quite honestly we need a point-per-game out of each of them to justify those contracts. We'll see if they continue to develop the way we hope!
I would love it if you guys could make a projection into the future of the team, lets say in 3 years.. Maybe have a guest on the show to talk about it. So interesting to imagine what the trios will be.
Demidov-Suzuki-Slaf, Caufield-Beck-Dach, Roy-Hage-Newhook?
Yes Beck on the second trio. This guy knows his way around! But later on, Hage will move up to second or first trio.
How about defense:
Ghule-Reinbacker
Hudson-Mailloux?
Yes I love Kent Hughes's patience and his approach to the free agency market I truly believe we are in great hands it will probably take a little longer to become a playoff contender but I think his and hopefully the fans patience will pay off tenfold go habs go!!
…kovacevic was a give away.
or maybe jersey padded the deal with cash, and media not report it ? …is that possible in todays media business ?
no more contracts to exceed 5 years. YAY
dl
Demidov can score goals, but he is known as a play maker and excellent at making passes to set up one timers. I would put him on aa line WITH Caulfield not on separate lines. Whether it is with Suzuki or Dach as the pivot, it will depend on chemistry.
On the topic of fans being disappointed with no moves in free agency. The cap is the problem. When you hear from fans that you can use the LTIR space to add players that is not completely correct the way they state it. If a team declares a player as long term injury reserve, then that player contract can be used to add another player via trade. Its not feasible to add a player through free agency this way since every contract is factored into the cap before the season starts. Including Carey Price's contract. After that, if a team then moves a player to LTIR then space is created.
You can still sign a player after this period but your most likely not signing the best player in free agency, nor do you want to sign a player for term because Price's contract has several years left on it and next year we would have to fit all the contracts into the cap. This year isn't the best time to go all in. Next year on the other hand is a different matter. Price's contract is on its last year and then you can manage the cap better.
These are the contracts that we are waiting to expire or trade hopefully.
Carey Price (2 Years – 10.5 million per year)
Josh Anderson (3 Years – 5.5 million per year)
Brendan Gallagher (3 Years – 6.5 million per year)
Christian Dvorak (1 year – 4.45 million per year)
Joel Armia (1 Year – 3.4 million per year)
David Savard (1 Year – 3.5 million per year)
Michael Matheson (2 years – 4.875 million per year)
All our forwards, defenseman and goalies are locked up. We don't need to add or subtract and we have 10.1 million in cap space left to spend. We can spend and get a player but that should to a player that fits into our time line. Young players with upside that can grow with the core since we should be out of the playoffs for 1 or 2 years before we start making any big pushes. So we could do trades like Patrik Laine who has a cap hit for 8.7 million for 2 years. Something I would go for. We could in turn trade to Columbus Josh Anderson and his contract and free us the 3 years of his contract. Even send one of our left shot defenseman as well so we can create spots in our line up. Jordan Harris being the player I think could go over.
The idea behind this is that Struble can come in and get more playing time and as Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher play together in the AHL, then can be called up together at a later date to start playing at the NHL level and build more chemistry.
Another possible trade candidate is Rutger McGroarty. Depending on what Winnipeg needs we do have possible trade candidates for them and we have a retention slot available if they want one of our veteran players like Anderson, Armia or even Savard. So I'm sure the Jets might go looking closer to the trade deadline for a key player and Montreal might be able to help them at that time.
But I am glad that Kent Hughes stated that he 1) Did not want to block young players from joining the squad. 2) The contract has to work for Montreal's timeline and not be a burden when Montreal is about to push for playoffs. Which is why we did not see any big free agency signings. And with the term that was being demanded. It wouldn't of worked for the Habs.
Next year when Carey Price's contract is on its last legs. I do think Montreal will start pushing some chips in and looking to improve the squad. Even then I would hesitate since I seriously believe players like Reinbacher will break out and we always have to be mindful of how much cash we are offering to players. I really don't want Hutson or Reinbacher's path to the NHL be blocked. Our defense is fine, we do not need to add anymore depth to them. A top 6 forward like Patrik Lane on the other hand I am all for.
