Boston Bruins development camp update

lowquality fans of a high quality Bruins team and getting higher the development Camp I’m posting twice in a day because I need to because it’s been two days two days of watching The Young Bruins turn in to the old Bruins that doesn’t make any sense you know what I’m talking about it’s been really fun and I need to do something that one might consider irresponsible unprofessional just playing wrong but the problem here is that you’re going to fall for it fall for it the wrong way to phrase this but you’re you’re going to buy into it because you can’t help it because I can’t help it there’s nothing we can do hype is hype excitement is excitement we love the team we wanted to succeed we want to believe what we want to believe so I am going to talk about a couple of things that have stuck out through two days of Camp just two days drills it’s really just been drills it’s been skating shooting some one-on-one some board battles we’re going to talk about a couple things that stick out but the irresponsible thing like comment subscribe nail it no the real irresponsible thing is that I’m going to talk about a 17-year-old Center prospect that we drafted in the fifth round named Jonathan MLL who is now going to be on your radar until he either cannot be because he’s not going to make it or until he’s the new onec hell yeah 17 years old there’s too much hype but I’m going to build the hype he shows up to Cam he’s a fifth rounder 17 years old 18 at the end of the month and he looks not only like the most confident guy on the ice but he’s so aggressive when it comes to doing things the right way it’s a weird it’s a weird word to use adjective wise aggressive but when we talked about him in the draft recap it was really good skating nice speed nice Edge work good putt control nice hands sees the ice well but is the motor there is the passion there he disappears for too many stretches is he is he going to actually put it all together to make the leap that’s why a fifth round guy 6’2 187 lb we have monsters in this Camp by the way 6’7 LNO our first round we’ve got 6’8 kadinsky who is a whole different animal we have so many guys that are dwarfing mlla which is weird because he’s 6’2 and same so I feel a little weird about that but he came in there was no nerves he doesn’t look like he’s out of place and he certainly doesn’t look like he doesn’t have a motor not only is he focused and attentive but he is going through the the drills cleanly he’s listening to every word from the coaches he is locked in and as for how he’s actually performing you know the part that we should probably really care about oh my goodness day one I show up and I get the second half of the forward group I got the plane landed late I got a little late to camp and watching a little bit and I’m seeing ptra is out there looking good and and jelic looks filthy unbelievably filthy and to keep this video not 30 minutes long I’m just going to kind of mention little stuff with this zelich’s whole paragraph is he is one year left at BC because this guy is going to compete for a middle six role the following year he has it Whatever It Is xelic has it but he’s not the purpose of this hype train right now is Jonathan MLL Mel pops his little head up at one point one of the skating drills he just kind of roasts through it kind look at the sheet number 29 oh [ __ ] that’s the fifth rounder nice nice he looks good out there and then you just notice again oh he looked really clean with that skating drill too oh wow he just handled right through the defenseman there that was pretty nice oh the shooting drills he’s pretty accurate with these actually he’s getting them on net he just starts you know popping up and then the session ends I only got to see him for about half an hour day two and day two I’m excited I want to watch him I want to see it’s only been two days I want to see what he’s bringing we get some drills some skating drills some passing drills everything’s clean crisp yeah he bobbled a puck once or twice he made his mistakes everybody at Camp does and then they get to the one-on ones and who do they pair him up with they pair him up with our number one or round one pick number 255 overall Dean lero 67 215 now look if I’m AEL going into a camp and I’m 6’2 187 lbs and I’m 17 years old and I go all right first time at a pro Camp hopefully they put me with someone who at least I have a reach advantage on I’m one of the younger guys like maybe I get somebody who’s like 510 you know little guy uh uh no we’re going to put you up against the second largest player here and they’re doing one-on-one battles I cannot I cannot express to you and look I know that during these drills it’s not stra the goal for the defenseman isn’t exactly strip the puck away it kind of is but it’s also like put the pressure on let them practice right he’s just using his body lero with that way longer reach still can’t even get his stick to to the puck and he’s guarding it the whole time and I’m not even insulting laterno here Mel’s just moving he’s quick he’s got so much ice to work with obviously these one-on ones are tricky for the defender but then they swap and Mel is inside this man trying to get the puck all right well you know what I mean he is all over him they go to board battles M’s getting low sturdy and the turn’s struggling here a little bit CU he’s trying to go over top he’s trying to with his height win the battle but Mela is staying low keeping his hips low keeping the puck contained gorgeous just gorgeous footwork then we get to to the one-on ones with goalie and net and MLL gets roasted on the first attempt they both run rush for it and I believe it’s chevil de off who was actually going against him he beats him to the puck and he ends up getting the inside route to take the shot that didn’t happen again every session after that not only Mel was MLL first one to the puck each time but there was one in particular one battle where shev just gets him right in the back knocks him over nothing illegal but he’s got like 40 pounds of the kid 30 pounds of the kid knocks him to the ice pops right back up little Dipsy Doodle uses the net to get the pressure off of him swings around dunks it with the hour and a half of drills way too early to make these assumptions these grand gestures or whatever the hell I’m doing here it’s irresponsible it’s unprofessional I can’t tell you how impressive he’s been through two days to the point where I’m like look he’s not making the team but what if he came to training camp you know just give him a little taste just give him a little taste before College just put him in the training camp just put him in the camp it’s they’re not going to do that I don’t think Everyone likes finding a prospect that they can be way too too excited about and a fifth rounder hell yeah I am genuinely just blown away by the kid GS blown away let’s talk about a couple other guys we’ll start with the rookies lero his skating solid he’s not fast initially he’s fast once he gets going his positioning defensively he loves to stay between the opponent and the net he’s strong there needs some work on board battles cuz actually oddly enough every time he was against someone shorter than him which was virtually always they stay low and he struggles to like disrupt their balance he’s not an overly physical guy so there’s going to be some things there his Puck handling is fine it’s good right his shot is absolutely nasty I mean it is hard it is accurate and I didn’t see a lot of him just walking in and unloading this is a heavy wrist shot and it is top Corner bottom corner under the glove the shot is one of his best assets and it’s one of those things today when they’re doing the 1 V ons he wasn’t he wasn’t great at creating separation and of course it’s early you don’t expect that but when he manages to get his shot off and use his reach to create a little bit of Separation it’s a tricky shot to track he’s so long and it is quick and accurate doesn’t I wouldn’t say the release is quick I don’t know how to really explain this one cuz you see him about to shoot and then the puck just it’s it’s the goalie is going to watch and go okay here we go and just a weird shot accurate as hell lero had a good first couple of days little nervy to start gronwald another one uh he was picked he was the one we moved up to pick the one that involved in the lco trade for 110th overall really nervy start for him a lot of nerves uh I felt like he couldn’t handle the puck very well taking the puck off the wall on wraparounds was was he was struggling with that um just not very focused kept messing up a lot of the drills I think a lot of that comes from hey you just got drafted for a crazy couple of days and this is your first Camp so he’s Shing those nerves a little bit his skating though I really like it really solid keeps up with everyone makes sure that he’s with the play uh so mostly I’m pretty happy with that he didn’t stand out though Lok Johan H our last pick uh really kind of just across the board doing the right stuff day one he was actually really impressive I felt like he was really smooth with all the drills especially the non Puck workor drills just the skating they do a lot of backwards skating with the defenseman in particular for obvious reasons I liked it I thought he was solid uh he has a million things to work on especially once the Puck’s involved but for the most part fine it’s a six round pick he’s going to work his way there he’s a project but uh I thought there was some some nice moments guys that kind of stood out I’m going to keep with the defense for a second actually just because it’s easier mirenberg he’s still got another year overseas I believe he is the guy that we got in the STA trade or one of the guys we got in the STA trade with Vancouver and everything across the board every single drill he was good to great he was the better side of the defenseman it was really I mean nothing was Elite there was no moment where I was like whoa but there was a ton of moments where nice all right good work nice and you could hear it from the coaches too just little golf claps you know that was nice to see the consistency build because he plays grown men in the league he’s playing at and they’re exped in a couple years for him to take that leap uh they’re hoping I think I believe they’re hoping that after this next year he comes over to North American ice other there’s two other well there’s four other defenseman I would mention Mast is still struggling a lot I think that signing the ELC super early is still confusing Mast is not on Pace to to get anywhere I’ve talked about him previously kadinsky the seventh round pick a year ago uh still figuring out skating his shot is atrocious he’s got so many things to still work on but he’s a behemoth of a human being 68 has no issu standing in front of a slapper trying to get the tip in front of the net when he’s screaming a goalie the goalie is in a black hole basically they can’t see a damn thing uh so he was just fun to watch but your two defenseman who are actually looking to make a push sooner rather than later is uh brune who is probably our best defenseman Prospect right now day one I actually expected him to look a little better mostly skating drills too as soon as they got to the reverse skating though he’s just a whole other level from anyone else on the ice he is so smooth and fluid with everything he does then you start getting into shooting drills Blue Line Puck play all of that and he’s just got a gorgeous handle on the puck his shot is finding its Mark way more often than not there’s a lot to like about him offensively and his skating allows him to stay in front of anyone that being said uh I don’t know if he really separated himself when it comes to the defensive work or the board battles he left a little bit to be desired there the other defenseman I would mention is one I’ve mentioned before in the channel is Jackson Edward you know the killer the guy who LS elbows up and aggression and had five suspensions last year five he had five suspensions last year mostly slooh fighting I believe yeah this stuff to work on uh sounds like a bruin already he doesn’t get the chance to be a killer in Dev Camp he has to play hockey you’re not going to be hitting these guys and they’re not working against the forwards yet I should have mentioned this there’s a c there the group that comes in with the fors and the group for the defenseman the defenseman are competing against each other so there going to be once we get the whole group together the the defense is going to have to show they can defend against a guy who’s supposed to be attacking them but Edward stood out he was the most consistent across all drills he was during the drills replicating real game situations where some you’d have yeah pass to the point launch a shot that’s the drill most of them yeah I collect the Pucket I hammer that on net but him and brune were the only ones uh kind of making a move acting like someone was coming at them move around them take the shot and beyond all of that his consistency was great his physicality his board battles excellent the coaches did not stop talking to Edward they did not stop talking to brune those two in particular and it was constant and Edward there’s aggressive coaching going on there those guys see what they want to see and every mistake they get they get out of him they are at his throat about it this is a guy that they have expectations for they genuinely do brune and uh and Edward are both going to be in Providence this upcoming season training Camp’s big for them because although there’s not a lot of room we just did it on the other video there’s not a lot of room on the defense it doesn’t mean that they’re shut out there’s a real opportunity for them to make a statement here and I think the two of them are competing with each other trying to be like I’m the next defenseman to watch they’ve been that’s been really fun battle to watch uh as for the forwards jalic I already mentioned last year in college this upcoming season he’s been awesome he looks great I’m really excited what he to see what he does in the scrimmage he’s physical he’s just his motor never stops he’s excellent at stripping the puck away it’s and then the the moves with the goal tending is just it’s sad he’s had like four different times he had the cold tender with his face on the ice and the Bucks behind him it’s just brilliant the guy looks awesome his shots Wicked accurate his speed is there I don’t know so much about the defensive game but the board battles he was winning and he was stripping the puck away in the open Ice battles as well I can’t gush enough about xelic I really really like what I saw from him uh ptra seems to be going kind of half to 3/4 speed but but that’s kind of to be expected he was paired with Harrison a lot Harrison is that uh that prospect that we’ve talked about with an NHL ready shot but doesn’t drive a line lags behind plays way too often uh simply doesn’t get involved enough and you can see it on his stats in Providence last year I believe he had five goals that’s not enough that’s not enough 40 something games with an NHL shot like that he should be scoring more at that level I think he’s a guy that you’re really hoping puts it together cuz a lot of the talent is there the skating ability is there I didn’t see a lot that would really tell me that he’s you know ready for that next step hopefully he comes into this season with a fire in his belly um but outside of that not a lot of guys stood out all too much I’m trying to go through the forwards in my head right now to think of who I’m leaving out because Riley Duran uh looked intense his motor again he’s one of those fourth line guys that’s like looking to make that next step he’s going to have his first pro season coming up so there’s a lot of talk about him trying to force his way into the fourth line he’s probably a year away from that but will probably be one of your classic uh fan favorites he was fine in the back of the net I actually wasn’t watching him a lot during the today but one of the other guys that was Scott was on the other side watching him and he said every time he had the puck it was going on the back of the net which is obviously something you like to hear um but other than that no one I would say exceptionally stood out beyond the ones I’ve already mentioned still there’s a lot of guys that have a chance over the next couple days to do a little bit more and there’s aren’t too many that you sit there and go what are you doing out there they have these guys in a good structure there’s a good Pace to everything there’s a couple guys that you can tell maybe a little nervy or just aren’t pushing the way you might want if you’re trying to make a statement um kind of reminds me there one or two Harrison being one of them uh like leel originally when he had his initial camp and you kind of went why is this guy going half speed and in their head that that you know they’re at the professional Camp you’re almost at that level and they have to learn that like no no no no you have to earn that next step there’s a lot to like about these prospects I know that we get bashed for our Prospect level but for the most part just because we don’t have a franchise guy sitting waiting there we have some real pieces jelic and particular oh lot mels I didn’t even talk about him he which is weird because he is my favorite Prospect not our best Prospect my favorite Prospect he was fine he had some real highs he had some really great moments he’s still really slick with the puck but he also he’s losing some board battles his skating hasn’t improved at the rate that I might have hoped uh his speed certainly hasn’t boosted up all that much but he’s still a multi-year project so I’m not really losing faith in that at all and I’m really curious because he’s the type of guy that should shine more once we start scrimmages because his greatest asset is not a physical one it is the vision and his understanding of the game and the structure of the game so not a lot of compliments for him but drill work isn’t really where he shines anyway no real goalies to talk about unfortunately but I mean you see what the depth chart is for the Bruins anyway we’ve got a lot of goalies that we think might take the next step with busy and dietro and of course we got Swan and Corp pasalo right there so not a lot of these guys we have four right now at the camp they’re not really showing now enough that I think that they’re ready to take the next step and they’re obviously got tons of guys to jump in the depth chart anyway uh let me know if there’s anyone else that you’re curious about or you think I forgot to mention which is very possible because I don’t have any notes or anything on this I’m just kind of going off the seat of my pants because I don’t have any of my equipment here and some people have said I look like I’m in a holding cell which I might be I might be I miss my jerseys a lot is that weird it’s probably kind of weird go bees go bees

  1. is Warrior Ice open that anyone can go and watch this kind of thing, or did you get special access somehow?

  2. (I know you were mostly joking about him coming to rookie/ training camp, but) Ushl/ncaa guy can't sign a contract to come to camp without losing all eligibility

  3. LQ putting in the work tonight!! Love to see it.

(Edited cuz I missed it lol) Please continue to track Groenewold – I think a lot of fans are probably curious what the Bruins saw in him that was worthy of trading Lauko away for.

  4. Great review. May I kindly inquire about your casual, city attire? The shirt is nice but the sweats (?) are unique.

  5. Great video. Its always interesting to hear about the young guys. Gonna be honest, I'm a little excited about Morello. Just because he's a fifth rounder doesn't make it impossible for him to make a jump.

  6. This vid was awesome. My old man was going on about Morello and tbh he wasnt on my radar at all and it was great to hear you speak about him and being pumped. Stoked that youre in Boston taking a look and giving insight on the Bruins prospects

  7. We have prospects! Glad we have a fair amount to be excited for. Edward's & Duran are the 2 I'm gonna be watchn'πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
