2024 NHL Draft Selections: Ryerson Leenders (202nd Overall, Buffalo Sabres)
how’s this feeling yeah it feels amazing yeah my whole family was here and yeah it just feels great a little bit of relief too I think the look on your face was like yeah it was it was a long wait I guess but it was definitely worth it to be a drafted Buffalo what if the steel had spent to getting you to this B yeah still has been huge to Jr has uh brought me in from the get-go right when I was 16 years old and uh he gave me all the opportunity in the world to succeed and uh yeah he’s paved the path that I’m in right now and I ow everything to getting the opportunity to play all those games at 16 and then play even more in 17 how much do you think that is a credit to you getting selected today yeah that that’s a huge accomplishment for sure but um I think like I can’t do it without my coaching staff there and my team as well and I think just uh the right lines lined up and I think that’s what uh led me to do what I did in Miss Saga and I think yeah that definitely had a big uh big um step for me to get drafted here the day were you surprised it took that long or did you feel maybe you might go a little ear um like you always hope you you go soon or whatever but I’m definitely proud of myself and I’m definitely excited to be a part of Buffalo you a uh actually my brother um my family wasn’t a hockey family at all and my brother asked for like three years straight um can we play hockey can we play hockey my family said no no no and then um the third year he asked he finally said yes and they asked what position we wanted to play he said goalie and I left up to him so I say goal is well yeah have you been to Buffalo um I have once for a hawy tourament how much can you be the seventh rounder now as a motivator yeah it’s definitely uh it’s definitely somethingone to look uh um going in the summer for motivation for sure and uh prove everyone that I should have or I could have went um went sooner in the draft but I’m definitely going to do everything I can to uh to show Buffalo what I’m made of and uh do right for him one of your rivals in the division D venes seventh round pick he signed can you kind of clean on something like that yeah for sure I was I was actually thinking about him when I got drafted here in the seventh round and he’s done amazing stuff in the OHL and like you said he got signed so he’s done incredible for himself and yeah definitely can follow his footsteps a little bit how cool is it to see all your teammates getting selected and then I don’t know if you saw Finn Harding got selected just after oh did he good for him yeah it feels amazing to see all my teammates there get selected especially a couple guys you didn’t really expect like Steve there it’s feels great to see him off there on the name yeah what do you think of the sa makeup and goal withi and those guys there now joining in that new organization yeah it’s some big names to follow for sure but yeah um I’m looking forward to uh to seeing them a bit maybe uh learn some stuff from them or whatever but yeah they have they’re great goalies obviously and yeah just following their footsteps
