  1. Anyone who signs a player like Stamkos is the winner. What do you need more? You need a leader, Stamkos is the guy.

  2. as a lightning fan I'm very upset watching the best player in lightning history leave but I wish him the best in Nashville and I hope he does well

  3. Stamkos was -21 for the season. He is a defensive liability. I completely understand why BriseBois did what he did. Ruthless Execs stay in the business for a long time because they make the hard decisions based off of facts and not emotions. Nashville made a big mistake. Preds have slipped on defense and they are now only getting older with their roster

  4. Its gonna be strange getting used to. but honestly Stamkos at 8 is a lot even as a tampa fan. His skills aren't what they used to be and I'd take guntz at 9 rn over Stammer at 8. Good for Nashville tho.

  5. I wholeheartedly disagree on guentzel not being an upgrade on stamkos, I think he absolutely is. He’s a consistent 80+ point guy who has a lengthy history of putting up impact numbers. Stamkos, while still being an impactful player is on the back 9 and lost the ability to be a full time centre. Taking the emotion of losing a franchise great out of the equation I think the lightening nailed this.

  6. Most casual hockey fans wouldn't be able to name a single forward from Nashville other than their 1st line, Stamkos and Marchessault will help them a lot

  7. I think it's wild that Nashville goes from rebuild mode to signing 3 30+ year olds in the span of a year in an attempt to be more competitive after going on a surprise run late in the season. This will either be spectacular or a disaster, little in between!

  8. Askarov isn't going anywhere. He still has to mature in his decision making, although I love the crazy style he has with coming way out to get the puck. I think that's part of why Mitch Korn was brought back, to help askarov solidify his game after losing the starter job in the ahl playoffs the last 2 years

  9. As a preds fan ppl won’t discuss this but preds have the Tampa first round pick this year. The Jeannot trade just keeps getting better every off season.

  10. I think you guys are right that Stamkos just didn't fit in with what Tampa is trying to become, which is unfortunate. A week ago I messaged a buddy and guessed that Stamkos was after a deal netting him around $30m. I had Tampa offering a 6 year deal @ $4m per, and based on the math of his Nashville's deal netting $32m, I apparently wasn't very far off my projection. He can still net 30+ goals for at least 3 if not all 4 years in Nashville. Great acquisition for them.

  11. Sure, they should have probably offered Stammer $5m or so, but $8m is too much.
In case anyone didnt notice..Tampa in its current form was done winning cups.
Fact is; Kuch, Hedman, Vasi, Point, all more important and impactful.
You cant pay your 5th best(at best) player like he's your star (TORONTO)
Besides, were they supposed to play it like the Pens or Caps and slowly fade into miserable mediocrity?

  12. Guentzel is a good player, but no way he is an upgrade over Stamkos. We'll (Lightning) lose 10 goals or more over the season, just on the power play alone. It's not just the goals he scores, its the fact he opens up the power play because they have to cheat to his side. I'd rather have Stamkos for another 4 years at 8M, than Guntezel for 9M for 8years. If I was betting on it, I'd bet Stamkos scores more goals over the next 4 years than Guentzel.

  13. Not retaining Stamkos is horrible. Ridiculous treatment of the heart of the franchise. Why would any player put their stakes down in TB now that it's obvious that's how management rolls.

  14. PP merchants are fine for the regular season but being that in the post season is not good. Look what Oilers and Panthers did on to other team's PPs

  15. Sabres should've called up Steves agent and said we will literally give you whatever you want but it seems we've done nothing again so far it gets me excited about another year as a sabres fan

  16. Considering Stamkos only had 81pts while playing on the same team as Kucherov (144pts) says A LOT.
Great professional but 8 million a year at 34 years old? Cmon…

  17. Putting Guentzel aside for a second, they decided Stamkos was only worth half as much to the team as McDonagh?

  18. Prediction and it maybe because it is still raw now but not having stamkos in tampa will cost season tickets in Tampa

  19. I can handle losing Stammer for Guenzel but not sure how to feel about losing Sergy for essentially Mcd and prospects
