Linus Ullmark explains how the trade to Ottawa went down
[Music] [Applause] [Music] Hello friends it is Thursday June 27th around 10:00 a.m. Pacific time that would make it 1:00 p.m. Eastern 9 Mountain 11 Mountain I don’t [ __ ] know I’ve had a hard time keeping track of time zones really really tough uh uh we’ve got a guest that will be joining us 9 hours ahead yeah it’s insane the last two days have been wild just trying to do math trying to do math and trying to do geography because you are looking at uh the vag boys of podcasting because we are vagabonds every piece of content you see from us this week will be from a different location including this episode we taped it all within the last like 2 hours and it’s still going to be like at some point I’m not kidding the sphere is going to be behind us and not because we were doing some like whoa check out the sphere like we God hates us so much this Vegas trip that being able to execute the most simple things are just impossible so every bit of content that we’ve gotten up so far is has been a blessing from Shawn and the hockey gods and the the Wi-Fi Gods even though I don’t believe in the Wi-Fi Gods at this point truly yesterday was an incredible day you said uh like top weird top five weird day you’ve ever been alive yes we spent yesterday literally running around Las Vegas looking for usable internet which is in insane thing to say we are planning on doing most of the shows this week at our hotel room won’t name what hotel we’re staying at but the WiFi is [ __ ] ass you use the word untenable it is airplane Wi-Fi so that’s why yesterday’s show went up super late we spent the rest of yesterday searching for a spot where we could set up and do today’s show we ended up here we’re at a wework here uh and so we’re doing a show from a wework we did a taped interview that you will see with enus olark a little later in the show we did that in a different spot um and tomorrow’s episode is going to be in a different spot tomorrow’s episode’s gonna be in a different spot everything has been such a cluster [ __ ] but uh luckily we did it all yesterday so that we could lock down uh a chat with lenus alark which was fantastic I’m very glad that we spent yesterday in hell so that we could do it today and it was awesome always amazing to speak to that man we got about what a lovely person he is he returns some compliments but mostly we talk about the end of his time in Boston his no trade clause he’s one of the more Infamous no trade Clauses that’s ever existed a hardworking no trade that of a four-year $20 million contract seems like a pretty low stakes thing in the grand scheme of things but man people have talked about that no trade clause more than they’ve talked about the fact that he’s a VZ winning goalie and that he’s a perfect human being somebody in the chat says the show host has a tenuous grasp on US time zones something that isn’t particularly common of a hockey podcast Sean did you know off the top of your head when we were saying the times what time it was Mountain yes because it’s just one hour uh later yep than what we are so it would have been 11 what did I say did I say idea I said nine you know what you didn’t say what did I say is that this is what chaos brought to you by prize Pi prize picks daily fantasy sports Made Easy Sean Sean’s a Sean’s a real one why did you just unpl your mic Sean said my work here is done this show is presented by prize Pi I’m unplugging my microphone because of the setup I can’t really go over to the road cter to mute the mic so if I’m not using it that’s the only way for me to mute myself that’s hilarious just he’s kzing it well we’ve got more offseason moving and shaking yesterday we put a bow on talking about the Oilers so now we’re just talking about whatever relevant news is happening uh the Oilers have issued a statement regarding Ken Holland he will not be back as GM of the team uh statement from Jeff Jackson Jeff Jackson if you don’t know caror mcdavid’s agent who became CEO of the team because the Oilers were like yo how do we keep this guy happy it’s great Behavior EV Oilers and Ken alland have mutually agreed that his contract will not be extended beyond the end of its current term over the past five seasons we wish Ken Cindy and his entire family the very best and thank him for his leadership and contributions of the Oilers organization and the City of Edmonton Jackson will speak uh today with the media at 11:30 a.m. Mountain we just don’t know when that is so what Jackson will probably say is something like what he said look Ken Holland has been there I want to say five years not the I don’t want to say it wasn’t a hard job but like it’s a pretty hard job I mean he’s got some really quality ingredients but it’s never an easy job I would say though if like you don’t want to like lose your mind where working Oilers GM is one of the jobs where it’s like hey just make sure we still have McDavid and dry Sidle and obviously there’s still more work to be done I I say that all to say that I’m not really lamenting the loss of him I don’t think that he’s a bad uh GM at all I love what you did with the goal tending this year but I don’t look at this as like uh what are they GNA do oh no where do they go from here I agree and I think that this was um somewhat foreseen like it it certainly wasn’t unforeseen everybody everybody was talking about that it was the last year of his contract and especially in the first half of the year I think people were ready to kick him out of the door a little bit early but uh yeah I mean I think that there’s probably been a succession plan in the works for a little bit so uh I guess where my surprise is is that we heard that there was a job for him to remain within the organization in some role if he wanted to to keep it he has decided no thank you uh I’m going to move on and whether that means he takes another job whether that means he rides off into the sunset who knows Ken Holland’s had a long career he’s done a lot of good things he’s made some mistakes I think we’ve we have all talked about those but uh the Optics of it is is kind of funny though they lose the Stanley Cup and then uh like if you don’t pay super close attention you’re like uh the Oilers and their G general manager have agreed to part ways after they lost in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final what the [ __ ] but obviously it’s not unforeseen I’ve heard some interesting names thrown around as a potential successor but again unless it’s somebody with a proven track record of being bad and I don’t think the Oilers would do that I’m not really going to be worried there’s obviously huge business to be done with Leon ddle but Leon ddle has seemed pretty committed to this thing and I would think that a GM wouldn’t scare him off I think that you just have Jackson handle all that and by extension McDavid handle all that how much how much like if we’re getting into conspiracy theories or whatever like you think Holland was had on his mind man if uh if I don’t resign dry cidal Andor McDavid Oilers fans are going to kill me and let get out of here let me get out of here before let me leave that work to on somebody else’s desk uh it’s not a not a nonzero possibility I think it’s a solid I mean I don’t know Ken Holland personally but if he just wants to kind of chill that’s a very good move for someone who just wants to hang out and have a good time so it’s a possibility Ken Holland out Ryan sudor bot out out also forgot to say Sean Mr uh perfect I know everything forgot to say that um DJ Bean that’s Pete Blackburn and this is Shawn depaz Shawn is uh laboring Sean’s still fighting it Sean’s still sick my man is sick I feel bad we both got sick at the same time and uh even though I’ve slept maybe one hour the last two nights I’ve somehow been on the upswing while Shawn is getting worse and worse and worse I I will say I’m marginally better than I was last night uh but you look like you wanted to die for like yesterday yeah there was there was there was Parts yesterday where I was I was struggling I was struggling I feel I am able to to operate by and large pretty pretty well today I’m just I think I’m over the hill I’m here you’re killing it upwing talk yeah I think uh you’re on the upswing uh chat says Conor McDavid you are Oilers GM that would be very funny pry I mean if Jeff Jackson’s the president or the CEO I’ll tell you what like their best case of for sure retaining Leon dry cdle make Conor McDavid the GM who’s going to recruit better than Conor McDavid exactly and all he has to do is be like just making sure you know that this is Conor McDavid speaking to you want to come here I literally don’t care people be like yo Conor McDavid just asked me to join the team I think I got to do it the Oilers are going to get gel one year or five times $1 million a year I kind of love this idea I kind of love the idea of them just being like all right we’re not going through the middleman anymore Jeff Jackson sure uh Chris noblock sure Conor McDavid fingerprints all over those guys let’s just go straight to the source Conor McDavid runs this team we need to do a video showing that uh based on Conor David’s willingness to take a question about Darnell nurse that uh he’s shown so much leadership that he should literally be in the leadership of the Edmonton Oilers as general manager big fan of that uh the Ryan sudor news uh more surprising that he wasn’t bought out like two years ago good hey I’m a big fan of waiting on the buyout just wait another year if you can stomach it it’s going to make life a lot easier not for that year on the ice you’ll have a bad player Dallas Stars did that it sucks though because now the Dallas Stars don’t have any bad players Anymore Joe pavelski I won’t count he was amazing last year had a terrible postseason I think like the only bad player on the Stars was Ryan suder yeah kind of I mean nobody else really jumps to the top of mind we should make a like a graphic that’s like a stat graphic sort of thing zero bad just zero zero bad players yeah with the did you know Ryan Suter was the last active bad player on the Dallas Stars the stars now have zero bad players be the meanest cool graphic of all time Sean I like it I see I see stuff like that all the time from like meme Pages we I mean we should create like a just like a what chaos meme page that’s that is uh what what would you call it like unauthorized not us yeah like yeah and the thing be like parody and then in parenthesis Maybe no no the better the better idea is that somebody else starts it and then maybe they get a job because there is precedent for that if anybody knows memy from chicklets bless you by the way thank you bless memy he is a fantastic person to be around very tough to not smile when you’re talking to him very tough not smile when you’re talking to Lena Sark and uh extremely hard to not smile when you are 4 million Xing that’s what I try to do on prize picks which is are presenting sponsor daily fantasy sports Made Easy you know the deal you know that Pete and I are often jumping on prize picks trying to turn $10 into $100 $1,000 maybe even $60 all you got to do is pick more or less on two or more player stats for a shot to win up to 100x your cash you know that it’s America’s number one fantasy sports app with more than not 1 million not 2 million but 5 million members is more than 5 million members it’s not quite 10 million it’s not but they could if they pick more or less on certain player stats they could uh they could HX even it’s uh if you’re looking for promotions prospects has you covered every week from lowering select players stats projections on Tuesdays which increases your chance of getting a win to getting your entry fees back if you have a losing lineup on Fridays that’s always a good feeling and if you want really want to get crazy you could do demons and goblins uh goblins are are fun they are the lower lower payout higher chance of being right Pete and I are into oops all demons we’ve never hit on them but that’s when you make a lineup of all demons which Demons of course have a higher payout but are a much greater risk and you’re looking at a couple of Risk Takers so uh take that risk with us have that fun with us it’s like a a glass of wine with the meal that is sports download the app today use code what chaos for a first posit match up to $100 that’s code what chaos for a first deposit match up to $100 prize picks pick more pick news what whoa Dakota Joshua extended with the Vancouver give us numbers foure contract 3.25 million aav I like that that is not bad I like it because the Sabers aren’t about to make that mistake yes that’s dangerous that you know what that is that is I said I made this comparison a million times this past year it’s Mapes where the aav isn’t so high that you’re like it can’t be super costly because it’s not a huge aav if he doesn’t end up being a solid player $3.2 million is just just kind of rots on your books it’s annoying and it’ll be and that that’s if he isn’t a good player I hope that he’s great there because he had a real coming out party last postseason it’s an it can be annoying but it it’s not going to be like super prohibitive that’s a cap that that’s a cap that you can dump right like if it doesn’t end maybe I mean look at the Boston Bruins they signed a lot of guys to to like four or five year contracts with low aavs and because they weren’t contributing they had to staple stuff to them to trade them away yeah well I mean you you can staple stuff to them I mean this is a guy that scored 18 goals last year in 63 games like I think contract year it’s a risk I think that he’s gonna contract year he scored 11 goals the previous year like he’s guy who’s finding a stride uh I think that it’s not a prohibitive cont contract it’s not as bad as what I thought that he was going to get on the open market in free agency yeah I like I’d like the deal more if it were like two times 3.2 but it’s not terrible it’s not going to ruin them we’ll see what happens I’m pulling for him I hope that he’s great somebody I know is going to be great as Lena Sark with the Ottawa Senators here’s our conversation with him from just a few minutes ago let’s to one of our favorite people full stop Lena Sark Ottawa Senators go tender hey lenus hey guys how have you been amazing we’re just going to blush this whole interview because we talk about how good a guy you are more than we talk about you as a player but you’re just the absolute best so we’re glad to have you on especially during a time when a bunch of changes been going on has is there like a relief that has set in or are you still feeling like there’s a million moving Parts in your life it’s definitely still a lot of moving Parts but I think that I am very good spot when it comes to the preparations for the move uh I have a good team that supports me when it comes to that sort of thing and also they sense I’ve been very good when it comes to helping me with all the questions that I’ve had and there’s always going to be more questions when you’re moving to a different country obviously I’ve never been in Canada except for when we play games here so living in Canada is also going to be a little bit different but a lot of people say that Canada is like a bigger Sweden so so I’m looking forward to it is that I had never heard that before I will tell you what though I was in Edmonton for the Cup Final and they got the thing that you got going on where it’s 10 o’clock at night and it’s light out I thought that there was some sort of like global warming thing going on and they were like no if you are up north it’s light out it’s incredible go Sweden oh yeah it’s great I play golf now uh before Midsummer and I came home like uh 11:30 p.m. and it was still bright outside so it was great I love those things that’s awesome uh is your heart broken just like mine yeah I mean when it comes to the personal side of it all yes when it comes to sports the the my career and and things like that I’m very much looking forward to the new opportunity that I get to have in in Ottawa but once you’ve experienced all the all the love and the friendship that you have in that that I got to have in Boston obviously if I didn’t feel any sort of of you know sadness or not anger but not anxiety either but just the the worst part um I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed my stay in Boston so now when I actually do have these feelings inside of me once I got traded I’m like okay yeah this just goes to show how loved and how much we enjoyed uh being a boss in Bruin and living in Boston there there was definitely an understanding with last year’s Bruins team or I guess this this year’s Bruins team that more changes were coming how did you get through that knowing that like there’s a good you would possibly be one of those [Music] changes um well I’m older than wiser now so that made it made it easier but I also think that being you know up on the trade block during the season help me prepare mentally for okay this is the real deal this might happen so once the season was done and I had the time to sit down and kind of digest it all then it felt like okay there’s a bigger chance that I’m not a boss and brewing in in the beginning of the training cap that it is so no having that in the back of my mind and realizing okay this is the god honest truth yes then you can start preparing yourself a bit mentally about it and not being you know taking you know uh being woken up in the middle of the night don’t know exactly what happening so that just uh uh was my mental approach to it all I know the answer is like that you’re a professional athlete but like how do you not partially check out during that like I I I just think of in the first round against uh Toronto where you were just still being where you were just still like locked in still an incredible teammate and yeah part of that is that Jeremy’s your guy but like for somebody who was in a kind of like stuck in the- Middle sort of situation you seemed at least from the outside like you were handling it well yeah no it’s it was a tough time in that sort of way and I’ve said it to multiple other media personalities as well that it’s one of the hardest things in professional hockey to to being a goenda during you know a playoff run especially when you’ve had the um uh the tandem situation that we had throughout the season when you you know you’re sharing duties and then you you stop doing it so you just want the very best for your partner but at the same time you want to be the guy so you have to always differentiate and put your own pride aside and think about what’s the most important thing at this uh time and uh for me that was a team that was a team success it didn’t matter what I felt in my heart or in my soul I could deal with those things off the ice that’s why I have a family and that’s why I can you know talk to them and I can talk to my other uh people that I feel very secure and that I can let my heart out and then deal with those emotions when it’s not game time so once actually game times comes around I can put all my effort in being a great teammate being a supportive teammate that tries to build a lot of energy and being you know a vocal guy which I’ve never really been in my career but I really Tred to put myself out there to be more vocal and help out the fellas now when I wasn’t playing and it took a little while for me to get used to it but it felt better and better the more uh the longer we went and also the fellas in the room did have a lot of good things to say about that and they gave me some tips and some pointers of like what was good to say or what not just out of curiosity what was mentally what was easier being in season with the trade stuff around you or offseason because you know during the offseason it’s not really like a rout necessarily like a routine that can distract you and you can kind of just push through it I would assume so I’m just curious about that side from your end offseason was easier okay a lot easier but also comes down that this was during the season was my first time being on the trade block so I didn’t I didn’t know what what to do with all my emotions and how to handle it even though that I spoke you know openly there was just so many things and so many uncertainties that I just couldn’t control and you you just want to have like a a clear-cut answer like once you’ve seen the rumors and people have asked you all the questions you’re basically saying to yourself like just give me an answer I’m I going to stay or I’m going to leave just hit me with the with the truth now and just either get on with it or just let’s say tell me that I’m staying so living in that unknown was tough and then you’re looking at the schedule and I remember because I saw it and I realized okay this is probably my last game of the season as a Boston Brewing if I get traded uh right before deadline so the the feelings and the emotions that I felt during those times as all was tough because I wanted to win and I wanted to be you know leave as a winner uh from the Boston Bruins so when I played I don’t know which game it was I think it was the overtime loss against Edmonton that was my final game that I played before the trading deadline was actually set and I just remembered how utterly uh sad I was in my home afterwards when I realized that [ __ ] sorry my anguish but I was just devastated that I didn’t get to win my final game as a Brewin but then again I had the opportunity to stay throughout the season and get to be in the playoffs so I was very happy at that point and then it felt like you know sunshine and rainbows once again when when the trading deadline was over [ __ ] dry saddle man he gets everybody that must have been uh a real pain uh correct me if I’m wrong correct us if we’re wrong they did come to you at some point during the season and did say that they had a a trade but what were the conversations like and what was the communication like from the Bruins throughout all of that because you don’t seem like a guy who is going to like Harbor much animosity or be much of a tough customer but also we’re we’re talking about your your life yeah basic yeah no there’s more things to it and you know what it’s easy to give people [ __ ] for uh having you know their no Trad list in a certain way or they have certain teams on it and whatever people don’t know which teams we have on there and every player has their own reasoning for it so for me whenever people will give me uh crap about you know not going there or not going there I’m like okay bu you have no idea what I’m dealing with on a personal level at home and with what what values I stand by and what is most important to me so it’s it’s how should I say it it’s easier now at this point obviously when I got traded to Ottawa because they weren’t even on my list I don’t even have to deal with you know all the questions about why why didn’t you wave your um no trade to this team or this one but you waved it for Ottawa that sort of thing so it’s I feel like okay this was a nice transition in and it’s going to be a good one getting to play in in onwa uh so a no trade clause I think that people often Overlook is a benefit and it’s a perk and it’s something that’s negotiated into a a contract and generally the give and take there is the term and the aav is different if there is or there isn’t one if you could do it all over again you sign for I believe four and 20 if you could have signed and gotten paid more money and not had that no trade clause would you have gone back and change anything or did you like having the no trade clause did that give you some element of control and peace of mind no I wouldn’t go back in time and change it not at all not a thing uh I stand by by my choices and I stand by what we came up with and I’m very happy we did that because like you said it is a privilege and it’s something that players before me have worked really hard to achieve together with the league and the PA and it’s nun’s nun’s business like I said before but what’s on there and which teams so that’s for me my agent my family to decide side and the like I said before the reasoning why some teams are on there some not that’s just my own and I’m like never going to share why uh but uh I think a lot of people in my uh how should I say in in in my position would appreciate a no move Clause than taking more money I think that’s just how I am obviously I think that stability and a sense of um easiness to know okay I’m going to be here I’m going to be here for a while there’s no stress and we can build you know take our time to build something great and don’t worry about leaving next here is a you know safety and on its own and I don’t know if this was ever confirmed and if you don’t feel comfortable answering of of course uh did you did you exercise yours uh well not but I know um I didn’t have to take take a stand to anything during the summer at least uh and I had conversations with my with my agent and I told him okay we he asked me about the list and I said yeah I’m I’m stand by the list I like it it’s something that you and I came to agreed upon that this is the best one for us and at that point I didn’t have to you know there wasn’t any um hard discussions or negotiations or anything like that um which I’m I would say I’m grateful for because I think that would have been hard to you know say no to this team and say no to that team and whatever and then you can feel like okay they just want to get rid of me that sort of thing what have some of the conversations been like post trade both from the Boston end and the Ottawa end uh it’s been okay so if you go from the from the Ottawa side uh I feel a lot of love and a lot of excitement a lot of Joy coming out from the Canadian from the Canadian side of the border which I’m very glad for because I feel the same way that this is a great opportunity to you know do something great uh with a young and and exciting team and then on the other hand it’s been H emotional in the s in the sense of that there’s been a lot of people that has reached out and you know thanking me for my services being a a bruin and how I was as a person and that and it speaks I I take a lot of pride in that I would say because uh when I left Buffalo there was basically none so now when I’m leaving Boston our producer Sean right here is shaking his head he was very he missed you quite a lot oh yeah there was there was the real ones that gave you know obviously sometimes when it comes to social media I don’t have it open at all time so there was definitely I can say there was definitely people that were saying that they were sad that they would see me go but the sheer volume of people that has reached out at this point has been tremendous and I’ve read almost everything and I really uh you know I feel um I should I say it um overjoyed and happy and proud proud of how I’ve handled myself as a person in the Bruin organization and my time in Boston so that people actually feel not the need but they’re taking the time out their day to send these sweet messages and it really you know warms my heart to uh to read and so I for whoever that seeing this um interview I I do thank you so much from the bottom of my heart how long did it take for you to to write that Instagram post I it would have taken me like five months in a million different therapy sessions and just crying because it was great and you you articulated your feelings for Boston very well um I am a lot better of articulating myself through writing than I am uh speaking I feel that some most of the times when I’m speaking I lose my train of thought because I go One Direction and then I come this direction and then all of a sudden what am I talking about I’ve done it now during this interview as well it’s very relatable I was going to say we we’ve been there relat coming from somebody who has a podcast is bad news for us yeah so you know how it is so uh once I started writing I understand as well that when it comes to social media there’s only so many things that you can write that people will read and try to keep it crisp and short but also you know given something that’s interesting to read at all times that’s why I listed things in my career at least in Boston that I found was my favorite moments or at least some of my favorite moments there’s others that is for a whole different conversation but from as a team standpoint and all that and and once I started listing these things in my head and I started realizing yeah these are not none of my achievements these are more only the team’s achievements and I got to thank you know the organization and the team and my teammates for that because that’s how I generally feel that these moments were so so fun to uh be a a part of that they overshadow all my own uh personal achievements my favorite Lena omark story and it’s uh a very selfish story was I was in the North End watching the Buffalo Bills with some friends and you came into the restaurant and you said hey I’m early to meet some friends um and uh I I’ve got about 15 minutes to kill and you sat down you watched uh some uh some Buffalo Bills football with us I know you’re a fan of course and uh in 15 minutes your friends arrived and your friends were Jeremy Swan and his two parents and it was like in a way it was predictable but it was just the most beautiful thing in the world that like of of course that is your evening and you were so happy when they walked in and in the time that you were waiting for your friends to arrive we talked a little about him being an allar and you were just so happy you were so proud you’d obviously been an Allstar the year before and like I don’t think I’ve tried to bring this up in like TV hits and any sort of Media stuff like I don’t think people actually understand the S and all Mark thing because there are teammates that are buddies and there are teammates that are best friends friends and it’s like the kind of work husband work wife work brother kind of thing but what what you two have is like really really special has that did that change at all this year like were there ever any Bittersweet moments where you’re like these are kind of the good old days they’ll end at some point but like let’s let’s make them count no h I did not feel any sort of uh of those feelings because in my mind at least if I start worrying about the future um and you know regret the past I’ll I’ll forget the present that sort of thing so deep by the way I’ve seen that quote before and I’m so happy I nailed it there yeah nice that’s a that’s awesome yeah it’s a great it’s a great quote it is because it really goes to show how I want to live my life and for people that has kids um one thing that I relate a lot to as well this Hakuna Matata it’s means no wor it it literally it truly does it it do mean no worries as the kids say that’s the thing no cap as the young fellas would say no one in the same answer Asuna Matata and no cap before also the great quote from your last appearance was with was when you were talking about your various playlists and you said I have one called nothing for [ __ ] the takeaway from this one is hakuda Matata No Cap as the kids say but like so like how are you and Jeremy now like I I Dare I ask what the conversation was like after the move went down a lot of Tears um I remember I I gave him to call as soon as I talk to the GMS and my agent I called him right away uh and uh I was shaking I was literally shaking and trying to get the worst to come out in in a sense of that I’m in control without you know um crying or so and making it hard because obviously it’s when you’re calling someone it’s you want to be understand or you want them to understand you uh and and solving at that point it’s going to be hard because you know I’m English is my second language but um it was a feeling of emptiness as well in a sense of okay this is it this is the end of what we’ve built throughout these three years uh and but afterwards once I’ve you know hugged my wife and you know let let all the feelings kind of subside like a wave that’s coming crashing against the uh Beach that it’s an end of one thing but it’s a start to another which is also a beautiful thing in itself and I know that and this is actually something that I quote um sway from is that he said it doesn’t matter if we’re two miles apart or if we are 20,000 miles apart we’re still going to be brothers for life and I that really speaks volumes to me and my family and and he’s always going to be uncle’s wayway to the kids he’s always going to be in my mind my little brother and you know my wife will always adore him you know for the person that he is and feel that he is you know uncle’s way or whatever in in her life as well yeah I was going to ask I know it’s probably hard to forecast but like what do you envision that relationship being like not only like this year but years down the road for you guys because obviously there’s a special bond there yeah yeah no I’m still going to bring him cinnamon buns for my games against him so I’ll keep him well fed uh for the F buns and then hopefully they’re spread out in a way that I can give them different ones at different times but it it really feels that it is for forever in a way of that how we are as as people and persons that it doesn’t matter that yeah we might drift apart but there’s always going to be a connection that will pull us together again and if that is in 10 years or 15 or 50 years it doesn’t matter I know that I can always look back at this point as one of the best moments or times in my life and I have this wonderful person that came with this decision to move to Boston you said that you’re not bringing hugs to Ottawa good luck to Jeremy if he keeps it going in Boston he will lose a lot of fans but like what’s that going to be like being in uh a new tandem uh I don’t know if you guys knew but I was a tandem with Anton back in juniors and our start of our professional career so I’ve known Anton uh all my life almost because he’s one year older so we’ve he was always the guy that I looked up to and that I the guy that I was always chasing and wanted to be in his shoes and being you know the guy to outperform him so it’s cool in a way that we now get to experience being uh a tandem in the National Hockey League and look back at okay yeah 10 years ago when we once we started our professional careers over seas this was us and this is us now so it’s pretty cool to look back at it but don’t you worry that you’ve uh you’ve uh played too well you’ve won too many vzas that now you go from and this isn’t a a shot at Anton of course but like your workload I imagine will increase from what it was in in Boston where like last year it was virtually a 5050 split this now you have Ottawa trading for a vzna winner who’s still in his prime are you ready to perhaps play more maybe than you ever have yeah I mean I played a lot of games during my years in the minor so I know how tough it can be I mean at that point as well we play three and three so the workload in itself it’s yeah it is taxing in some ways but it’s easier in other ways where the mental part of it is probably the easier ones where you’re just going per automatic you’re doing everything that you’ve always done you don’t have to think about it there’s no fine-tuning that needs to know you need don’t need to as I try to explain to a lot of people is that you don’t have to rev up the engine every game you’re just keeping it in in in fourth gear and just Cruise along and you keep playing your game and then when when you need to rev it up you do and when you have to you know um H gear shift down you do that so in that sense I’m looking forward to it h and I’ve like I said I’m 31 years old now and feel that why or not why this is a a perfect opportunity to play a lot of games because I’ve built up this um all my experiences that I can utilize into my game and know how to be successful and also play a lot more games without feeling too that it’s too taxing and in that way that’s why I say it’s easier to play more games because it’s everything that you go through happens automatically instead of you having to always rev up the engine when you’re sitting off the side a couple games here and there how much are you uh you seem like a pretty competitive person how much are you relishing the opportunity to go to a place where last year was a bit disappointing for them and they could use somebody of your caliber and uh you’re going to be playing more games presumably and and uh looking for that next contract so this is there’s a lot of opportunity in front of you yeah but what an opportunity it is you know it it’s so you know this is what we strive for to at least in my mind there’s obviously going to be the way that you always want to win you know but there’s also things along the way for me at least is and that is uh that I want to get to a place and once I leave it’s a better place that sort of thing and that’s why I’m grateful for my time in Boston because I felt personally I came in and I left as a better person as a better human being H but also as a better goal tender and I’m hoping looking back at it that people felt that okay once he left the the differences between from when he started his career in Boston to his final year things got better and our culture and other things got better as well you say that that you you got uh better over the course of your time in Boston granted we only met you like kind of late in your time in Boston and you were perfect at that point anyway but uh what was it about Boston so are you my friend oh man it’s stuff like that I mean you shared your favorite lenaar story ear mine was when we first met in Nashville it was right after you won the VZ you came up to me and you said buddy I love you but that came after you said huh you seem taller on Twitter and like it was my basically my favorite interaction but like legit legitimately genuinely I’ll speak for all Bruins fans we [ __ ] love you and uh very very thankful for your time here and I know like all all of us are heartbroken that this happened and so genuinely I do feel like you’re leaving this place better and we’re all like lucky to have gotten to watch you play and for some of us to get to know you thanks guys that really means a lot to me um it really does and you know what um I must I might just throw it out there on Loop now because it’s not just obviously about me what I think is cool when you’re speaking about you know stories is that you don’t know everything about a person so I Gotta Give You cred Pete for going you know uh public with your mental uh stuff that is immensely strong it’s in incredibly uh I would say I’m I wouldn’t say uh as a parent but I would say as a as a friend that doing so and going publicly on Twitter which to be fair people are jerks people don’t have any feelings on on Twitter and I will never call it X um that was great that is awesome that you go out there and say those things because there’s a lot of people in this world that needs to hear that and I try to Advocate that as well about mental health awareness and especially for men and I know how much I feel better speaking about my emotions and how I feel at all times and my wife has helped me uh a lot with that together with therapists in that I’ve talked to through my career and I really do feel like a lot of people in this life needs to speak to a therapist I think that there’s comes a lot more good things than bad things so thank you for sharing I really appreciate you doing that I appreciate you too buddy I love you seriously you’re the best thanks guys I love you too thanks just thanks for being so awesome to Pete so awesome to us for putting up with us uh we obviously love talking to you and it’s been a pleasure watching you we have I’ll tell you what we have a lot of jerseys on our set Ottawa Sanders one of the few teams we don’t have uh would you recommend any players that we get I kid we get Alina Sark I also you gota go you gotta go full on suweet on that one you got I mean Daniel afferson what a guy what a person what a personality so I think that kind of speaks for itself but if I mean if we’re going to go for someone other than me I mean primary sick uh sneaky one uh Jason sper oh Legend so good what about uh Ridley Greg he took a slap shot into an empty net and everyone got real mad at him that’s was super cool yeah most of the time most of the things there yeah it was I think it was the leaves right it sure was Morgan Riley got suspended it was hilarious yeah no that was that was that was a whole different situation yeah I don’t know really just I don’t want to come I don’t want to comment anything on that one because I wasn’t there before we let you go last thing uh you know I’m a I’m a jersey guy and uh a gear guy we talked about it before this past season I need you to let me know when it when it happens I I know you’re settling and and getting everything ready but when you get your gear for the s I need to see it R please send me the gear because you you [ __ ] kill kill the gear game so let me know drop the I’m getting I’m I’m getting more and more boring when it comes to those things I said that to the other guys that it was on the show and I have to do a little bit more digging a little bit more um see what about the history about the a senators and and look at other goalies and and I’m probably going to stick with my design that I have right now but being making more Auto obviously but then you know I don’t know do you guys have any um ever thought about deigning a goalie Mass this is your time to shine because there there needs to be one there needs to be at least two but I’m taking one for myself I think leim in Ottawa had like the Martian just jacked that he’s been retired long enough no one’s going to remember that I would say put the uh put a a dog on a flaming Zamboni somewhere on your mask because that’s our logo and that is a cool ass logo you ever consider I mean I’m not I’m not a strange to that one because I’ve had my corgis on there now but now I only have one so yeah is if I put uh put Bob on a samboni that’s on fire with a little bit of a senator’s hat or or helmet I can work we can talk to our guy who designed this and I mean it would go it would be great for business I’ll tell you last time you were on with us you mentioned that or you wearing a hat that said blh and people loved that [ __ ] that interview blew up and all the comments were like hell yeah lenus has good taste and music and we were like the questions were nice though no just all about that so respect weate not wearing that hat to dominate this interview and have that be the only takeaway this time around yeah I should have had something else and just put it right here in front of it and you so you don’t have to see my face amazing all right dude thanks so much really really appreciate you hopping on with us again we love you and we’ll continue to love you best luck in Ottawa man thanks guys really like I said really appreciate you having me on here I have been freaked out by the swear in the background there when the Emojis have been coming on some time to time it is what it is it’s pretty cool but I like I said I really appreciate what you guys do keep doing what you’re doing you guys rock and I’ll see you down the road awesome thanks man I’ll be completely honest I did not know there were emojis going on in the background and it’s a good thing that neither of us did because I think we would have been less cool about it more scared and uh I I generally have some fear of the I have some sphere fear anyway yeah some sphere if you will I think it’s equal parts uh terrifying and fascinating and beautiful aren’t all F terrifying things beautiful and fascinating it’s true like even when you fly into Vegas you’re like holy [ __ ] what is that thing and it just turns into a moon at night but even in between that there’s so much weird [ __ ] going on I’m not a big fan of the guy who uh who made it happen but I do like that the sphere exists Elon Musk no um actually [ __ ] I I shouldn’t I shouldn’t do that because we still have to try to get into to be admitted to the sphere I I take back what I said I like no it’s the architect you don’t like no the guy the no the person who built the sphere you have that’s what I meant yeah the owner hubba hubba handsome talented musician that guy is yeah I I really only like his music but yeah he can get me as an owner Sean raised a good point this morning too while we were doing that interview in front of the sphere it’s not really a sphere until they prove there’s a bottom half of it like eyes bottom yeah so I don’t know and technically speaking there’s a bunch of panels so it’s like a 8 million side shape really but oh yeah no yes Sean being a literal sphere denier I am a that’s great I’m gonna do that to everybody be like they’re G be like welcome to the NHL draft at the sphere and be like H spell it different like sure about that are you sure about that they they should spell it different like Oreos do like an SF yes exact so that’s what Oreos does they uh spell the double stuff Oreos are stuf stuf because there is not double the cream in them and stf can just mean anything it’s your fault if you interpret it as that similarly uh the Vermont made syrup Vermont made there’s just a woman on there and it’s spelled m a i d and it’s just some chick from Vermont I love good marketing man I like that’s got to be right up your alley oh Sean did you see what I see no there is a trade of draft picks and the Buffalo Sabers have traded in the first round they have traded the 11th pick for the 14th and 42nd overall pick you are a San Jose Shark oh man he’s not going that far you think sharks no they’re moving up they’re doing the you should know you’re a buffalo fan they’re Josh alling him they’re moving up before the draft and then at the draft they’re close enough that they can move up and get the guy I mean that’d be awesome Josh Allen that would be awesome I would like to I would like that for down though oh you’re talking sorry I’ve been off this a while I I told you yesterday Pete I didn’t I was I was fully prepared I would wanted them to trade that pick we were talking to our boys Derek and Nick and uh I was saying D also said that yeah I feel like teams 3 through 10 are like good news everybody we’re open for business and the rest of the draft is like cool who’s even in this draft uh we will answer that question on tomorrow’s episode because we have draft guest since we are not draft people but before we move on to that thank you very much Lark that was incredible I love him so much uh just I’m going to be the biggest [ __ ] Ottawa Senators fan this year just because of Lena Sark we’re for real getting Alena Sark like authentic pro Jersey from Fanatics it’s going to be incredible he’s just a gem of a human Jeremy Swan ain’t far behind him that those two found each other in life is the kind of thing that makes me believe in gosh I don’t believe in gosh no problem if you do but those two connecting is like some magical thing what they have is just incredible I love it so much yeah um we got a couple super chats oh right give it to me uh $10 Super Chat from Mike thank you Mr omark all the best in Ottawa and then uh $4.99 Super Chat from John Evans stop doing episodes that make me tear up no never I will have Lena’s homework on as many times as he wants we talked about adding a third uh a third chair to the show former player to uh to up our credibility there is nobody in the world that I would want to do a podcast with more than Lena Sark uh no I’d like him to be a permanent guest to our Liv too often to have I’m not I’m not bringing him down I’m not bringing him down he doesn’t know about my old [ __ ] sad tweets we we can’t have him we we can’t do that to him although I love that that was just a conversation between three proud therapy going men oh yeah I I love it he’s man but what’s cool about Sports now is like you could talk to like a million athletes about that [ __ ] like they they use it for athletic purposes but they also use it for like damn I got to get through the day twoo I mean they literally have sports therapists now yeah and those yeah those uh those are a very good uh Gateway I believe what he said by the way I don’t want to tell anybody how to live their lives but I do have a firm belief that everybody if they’re able to should go to therapy it’s fine if people don’t want to but I think that it is a very important thing so shout out him for putting that message out there people kept saying emotional damage in here and in the chat and I was looking for at least one emotional drainage and I didn’t get any not good uh let’s talk about the behavior of a Stanley Cup champion how about Roberto leango the longtime goenda Panthers who now serves as I don’t even know what what is he Gregory Campbell’s an assistant GM I mean Luongo has a very very serious position within the front office I believe more serious position go tender used to be the goal tender that’s true what’s his job uh let’s see does he even do anything he is the president of the Florida Panthers h no he’s not that’s I was gonna say just came him I’m I was filibustering and I gave him the most important title uh Sean can you do an number scrunch on that it’s not working for me all right but he uh he celebrated the Stanley Cup by throwing a million pounds of pasta in it yes and do we have the video will it be shown for the people okay all right I love all sorts of do whatever you want with the Stanley Cup and I definitely like people getting creative for some reason the fact that it clearly seems like such good pasta gave me a weird sort of feeling I don’t know why like you thought it was disrespectful to the pasta more than I don’t know who is disrespectful to I just thought like this of all things is crazy to me I I had more of a reaction my strongest reaction was the amount of cheese that was being put on the pasta it reminded me of that [ __ ] Geico commercial where the guy’s like say when say when say when it just goes on forever like leango was looking at him like are you going to stop doing the cheese anytime soon and then he eventually stopped it was literally the Geico commercial so I didn’t feel any sort of way about it uh I don’t know if I would eat food out of the stainley cup I would certainly drink alcohol I know that that there has been literal human poop inside everything’s been inside the stand I know but like there has been human I am not eating out of something that I know but you’re going to drink out of it yes that alcohol kills the I mean sure okay it’s it’s also like people drink out of shoes and like if you’re drinking you’re you’re engaging in more degenerate Behavior than eating gets so like I will drink out of it it’s actually a bucket list item of mine I don’t want to eat like quality pasta out of the Stanley Cup somebody said put some craft in that bad boy I don’t know if they were talking about like craft mac and cheese I would do craft mac and cheese out of the cup that feels more normal to me than like some real ass pasta I mean you seen like cereal you’ve seen like a lot of cereal is a great one Brad Marshon did cereal cereal I think is like a top one what are the best we’re running out of time but like what are the best things that you would uh consume out of the Stanley Cup Beer has to be like one pasta is up there on that list for really 100% what like it’s I don’t understand why you have a problem with pasta none of the other food I don’t I what kind of pasta you doing in there I’m just not like a food out of the Stanley Cup kind of guy but we just talking about cereal yeah I’m just saying a lot of guys do that that and that seems like lower class rather than like quality pasta but it’s the best trophy in sports I would why would you class it down I would absolutely I would absolutely do Apple Jacks out of the the Stanley Cup I’d also do cinnamon toast crunch out of the apple J if you do like Special K out of the Stanley Cup they then your day gets shortened but pasta I would do I just wouldn’t do fancy pasta I would do some mac and cheese though mac and cheese would hit by way Ramen oh yeah Ramen but here’s thing you put so much Ramen in it to get the visual yeah it’s gonna be a huge ass a lot of pasta yeah it’s Roberto Wango though he plays goalie Roberto Longo special adviser to the general manager of the FL okay that’s a that’s a big position you ever you think I ever anybody’s ever eaten anything with chopsticks out of the Stanley Cup maybe I don’t know would you do uh would you do soup out of the Stanley Cup I think clam chder that’s so much clam chowder tomato soup out of the Stanley Cup cheese yeah a little now we’re just talking about food we like to eat but like oh know you know what I do if I’m doing food ice cream I’d be doing ice cream suic ice cre Sunday a pillion scoops of ice cream and then you got the the SAU dripping all over like I’ve got the best idea what you know the uh the [ __ ] the the blizzards the Dairy Queen Blizzards and you can [ __ ] turn them upside down turning the Stanley Cup upside down with a Dairy Queen Blizzard tell me that’s not the best [ __ ] idea you’ve everard in your life are you drilling out the bottom in this case what do you mean I maybe I I don’t know how the blizzards work I I don’t I’m not about that life are you drilling out the bottom in that case to fill it up like backwards is that how they do that no you just fill up the C you just fill up the cup I think it’s just so you you you’re right so you’re still putting it in the cup yeah and then and then what are you doing you turn it upside down you turn it upside down because when you get the blizzard they they do the test th so thick that you can turn it upside down and it doesn’t fall out th it would be incredible to do that trick where you’re trying to test it you lift it up and then you realize that you’re holding not only the Stanley Cup straight up but enough ice cream to fill the Stanley Cup and you drop it on your face and there’s just Blood and Ice Cream everywhere um I would eat like a [ __ ] ton of mashed potatoes out of the Stanley Cup mashed potatoes out of the Stanley Cup gravy so many mashed potatoes that’s what you have to consider got gravy yeah that’s what you have to consider there is massive uh there’s massive quantity with most of these things and in some cases like with Ramen like if you’re doing Top Ramen in there that is it’s just going to look like a cartoonish amount what about just like hot chocolate like a found a fondue mountain and you just dunk whatever F if you do no hot chocolate with an entire bag of marshmallows would look amazing holy [ __ ] Katie in the chat said that uh Mar put a Slurpee in it yes because that’s the first thing that he bought after he signed his uh contract with the Avalanche oh yeah that was very funny that they were like what was your first purchase when you signed your contract and he was like uh I went until like 7-Eleven and I got a slurpie I say that every time anytime someone’s like what’s the first thing you would do if you won the lottery and they’re like I’d buy a car i’ no you wouldn’t that takes time the first thing you would do is probably buy some food yeah you just like buy a nice meal every time I think that the question is more geared to like what was your first gigantic purchase and K M was like got slurpy an extra large you know what would be cool out the Stanley Cup who would take a minute Jello oh yes cuz that’s an incredible Jello mold that’s like the best jello mold um if Canada ever wins the cup again love of your life has a good idea put poutine in the cup P would be you would need a [ __ ] pitch though to get through that you know what we should do when we win the Stanley Cup [ __ ] AMC popcorn with the raisinets inside a movie theater Just Right Between Us picking out of it that is such a good idea they’re like damn is that Paul Riser or Paul Maurice because there’s the Stanley Cup and raisinet yeah oh incredible I think that’s a clip by the way that’s like a show clip that’s a real what would you eat out of the Stanley Cup that’s money people are going to comment I’d have the jello I’d have this what if we did the Jim stapler thing inside the Stanley Cup what a prank that would be on the that the blizzard turning upside down works because of all the surface tension on the Deep cylindrical cup it obviously would not work in the Stanley Cup is that I I’m too stupid to even comprehend that that’s SAR the cup is gonna be it would be too shallow so like yeah there’s no chance it would actually work so here’s the question somebody says Dot pretzels out of the cup we famously eat a lot of dots pretzels most of the things we have named be it mashed potatoes soup most of these are things that will uh take on what’s the the scientific term the thing that it uh takes on the size the shape of its container you know what I’m talking about I know exactly what you’re taking things of that quality things of that nature things of that nature are we excited about like a chip or a pretzel out of there or does it need to be something that is going to adhere to the cups uh walls yeah no I I think that’s fair yeah that’s why Jello hits the hardest that that [ __ ] will stick to it yeah all right that’s Today’s Show we’ll be back tomorrow we will have a Draft preview the best one we can do it’s going to be an absolute blast uh thanks everybody for sticking with us this week make sure you are subscribed to the YouTube uh And subscribe to wherever you can get your podcast it’s Pete we haven’t done it recently hit him with a like Spike I’m just laughing at uh the trying people trying to answer the thing that you’re they’re like that’s called liquid uh they’re saying walls no I know exactly something that assumes the shape of something is and I I hope they’re doing that as a joke because there’s nothing worse than being a tough guy and doing the oh I think you mean this and it’s like when uh they’re asking Jerry and and uh George are asking what the barometer is to measure a certain thing and Kramer says it’s pronounced thermometer uh every everybody who’s in here thanks for hanging out with us please hit the thumbs up button right below the video player that is the like button and if you all do it at the same time that’s called the like Spike we appreciate you so much uh tomorrow we will have a Draft preview episode with Cam Robinson of uh Elite prospects please subscribe to the YouTube channel if you haven’t done so as well uh we love you thanks so much talk to you tomorrow bye we all sitting like the mayor

i'm eating dippin dots in the cup
A+
Very unhappy bear. 🐻
Best of luck to linus, looks like I'll be following Senators this season.
This will be a mistake for Boston & Ottowa's the team to watch.
Not sure if Jeremy Swayman can take that level of ADHD meds all season long as he did in playoffs.
Future of the Bruins?
Yeah.. future nhlpa rehab
We're not stupid.
"I can't bring the Stanley Cup out now, it's in the fridge while we wait for the Jello to set."
Good luck linus.
Thanks for your service but this buck just ran you out of town..
Try to stay healthy as you might play over 40 games
A+ interview from Linus. I'm going to miss him even more now!
I'm a 30 year Sens fan, I cant tell you how excited I am about Linus joining the team! After this interview, I am even more happy to have him.
Sens fans from day one and Linus is the best goalie we've had since Hasek. I wish we had the team to go for broke this year but there's too much change to happen for one off season. Hopefully Linus sees whats going on here and wants to stay!
Linus is incredible. He is so easy to root for. A+++ interview.
Lol ! Conor being GM would probably would work .
Earned a sub !
Being a Sens fan ,LOVE the Ullmark trade! He seems like a great person also .
More like an igloo than a sphere
Linus is an awesome goalie , if Boston doesn't appreciate him screw' em one the most prestigious position in hockey
Like a quarterback for football. Go where your ❤️ desires.
Where can I get WhatChaos shirt ?
I’m gonna miss seeing those “hugs” between the best one two goalie combo in the league. Good luck and best wishes to you Linus you were great to watch.
