Grading picks before the player has played a single game doesn’t really make sense. Realistically you have to wait 3-5 years before you have any idea if a pick was good or not.

In general any collection of team scouts should be better than the collection of journalists. Verbeek and Devils GM both said their teams watched almost every playoff game Beckett played in, and even Columbus and Utah had dinner with him right before the draft. It seems the journalists did not keep up with the teams
Journalists love to defend their pre draft list and a lot just won’t budge or admit they could be wrong, but I’ve seen a fair amount come around to the pick

If Sennecke has million number of fans i am one of them . if Sennecke has ten fans i am one of them. if Sennecke have only one fan and that is me . if Sennecke has no fans, that means i am no more on the earth . if world against the Sennecke, i am against the world. i love #Sennecke till my last breath.. .. I wouldn’t rank the Ducks 1st.
But besides Sharks/ Wilds/ Habs I don’t see much teams doing better than the Ducks. I’m pretty happy with the draft – shocked like Sennecke after the first pick – but with a little distance it’s not as bad as some people want to make it. Is there a possibility that Sennecke drops to draft number 6-10? Yes probably but if you like what you see would you risk the player for a potential 3rd/ 2nd round pick to trade down? if Verbeek and co value Sennecke over Demidov – let them cook they obviously wanted a winger.
Maybe they wanted a right wing player with a right handed shot and that’s why they didn’t pick demidov but Sennecke. He is the best right handed forward of the entire draft so that in itself has to have some value! If you narrow down the list for positions we need it is actually pretty small and if you add right handed to the equation there are suddenly only levshunov and Sennecke left in the top 10 anyways.
If you pick the best available player you take demidov probably, if you pick the best player for our needs than sennecke makes so much sense!
As mentioned in another thread I think verbeek prepared for two scenarios – one with the hawks picking Demidov and the other one with them picking Levshunov. If Levshunov is available we pick him up instantaneously and try to trade up our second first rounder to get a scoring forward (even though he is a LW eiserman might have been a possibility)
Hindsight is always easy but if the hawks picked Demidov and picked Levshunov 3rd overall then Sennecke goes to either the Blues or the Habs anyways. This player doesn’t drop much further than 5th overall imo.

I saw something today that called him “Perry but faster skater.” If this is true….. holy duck.

It was an interesting pick but I’m sure something warranted the reach so I’ll trust what the scouts saw. Hopefully the late blooming is sustainable

Everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks they are hockey geniuses, but if they are so smart then why are they YouTubers instead of professional hockey scouts.

It’s a C at best. Doesn’t have much to do with him
The 3rd overall pick you want more certainty and even Madden today was already putting the word out to not expect him NHL ready any time soon
So they drafted him based on a few good months and know other players picked around him are alot closer to being Ready
He may end up being great but we didn’t maximize the value of the 3rd pick, the Ducks have taken a high risk high reward player and 3 is high for that

After last year and seeing Leo be so ridiculously amazing I don’t give a fuck about grades Verbeek knows what he’s doing and ESPN and YouTube guys are ESPN and YouTube guys for a reason and now a GM

At face value a B.
I think it’s a pick that either gets a scout fired or pushed through to GM. High risk high reward.
