I really feel like they should take a look at Nikolaj Ehlers. He has stellar numbers, he makes plays from the corners on deep pucks, and can score when it truly counts. Very interesting player, to me.
I bet Yzerman traded Walman to send a message to Seider. Showing he's willing to ignore the tough pairings and tank the players to lower their value on the market.
The people saying SY shouold have 'swung for the fences' and drafted a pure goal-scorer, are missing the context that SY has found himself in since arriving. Holland had left a completely bare cupboard, and on top of that, when Detroit might have had a chance at a generational talent or two, we never got luck with the draft lottery. Highest we ended up with was a # 4 and a # 6. So, that being said, the Wings are going to be a team that wins primarily with defensive hockey, and lots of forwards who are strong defensively as well–think LV vs. Edmonton or Colorado. The pure scorers we're going to get are more likely to be established players acquired through free agency. IMHO.
